would the suitcase model without the charge controller be best solution for charging a GZ Yeti 400?

Accepted Answer

I would contact Goal Zero directly with that question. Even if their answer is yes, you can charge directly from an unregulated 100 watt panel, I would still order the Renology system WITH the controller. That way, you could safely charge any 12V battery... not just the GZ unit. It's only about $30 more.

Question 2

Will this work with my “solar on the side” connection on my 2019 r-pod 171? does it come with cords to plug in and do i need a controller separate?

Accepted Answer

You do not state what type connection your r-pod has.  But it does not matter, if it is incorrect for this suitcase, just purchase the connector you need and attach it, this is very easy to do.  Just make sure the polarity is correct and add a fuse for safety. 
I do not know if you have a controller built in or not.  If you do, then just purchase the suitcase without the controller, no problem.

Question 3

Will the Rover charge controller fit inside the 100 amp 12 volt portable suitcase solar panels?

While I'm not exactly sure what the "rover" charge controller looks like, there is a gap between the panels when folded. The "norma: charge controllers are small enough to fit in that gap, in fact, Renogy has a very cool little drop down/swing away panel mounted to the top of the frame where the controller mounts. The pivot action allows you to swing it down and it's visible when the panels are deployed.  This kit works extremely well keeps my optima yellow-top fully charged after running my fridge and assorted camp lights/accessories.

Didn’t realize it didn’t come with the charge controller would I be able to order it with the cable kit?

You can order the charge controller of your choice from any vendor you like.  Check out HQST.  Their controllers are indetical to Renogy and you'll save some money.
