Good Sturdy Product !
Product came with screws and every thing seemed to work ok. The fans are quite around 14 db. The sd drives line up correctly with the slots perfectly. Some what pricey.

Now Looking to REPLACE a Fan...
Bought one of these back in May 2019 - I'm here today to see if Ammy sells the fans 40mm fans so I can replace the one that dying. For me the fan's aren't that loud, but recently my computer started making so much noise I had to open the case to see what the heck was going on! I had suspected the dual-fan water cooler, but that wasn't it, and fortunately it wasn't the GPU either. Pulled off the opposide of the case which exposed the drive bays, come to find out it was one of the fans on this 4-bay drive dock! Blew some air into it, and it immediately quieted down back to normal - today, it's noisy again - time to replace it! Really nice drive bay, but be prepared to have fan problems sooner or later...

ICY DOCK Needs Fan Switches For All Models
The fan is way too loud, everything else is at least decent, and it's nice to have a model with locking mechanisms. ICY DOCK NEEDS TO PUT FAN SWITCHES ON THE BACKS OF THEIR CAGES, FOR ALL MODELS.

Good product, but you won't want this for a silent PC (unless you unplug the fans).
Pro: Seems well constructed out of metal. Pro: Up to 4 drives which can each be up to 15 mm thick. Pro: While the list price is definitely high, they can be had for a much more reasonable price online (I got mine here on Amazon for around $85). Con: Dual 40mm fans are too loud for a desktop system in this day and age of "silence is golden" computing. Replacement/extra locking drive bay adapters are now listed on the Icy Dock site and are available from one online dealer so far, so I have removed that previously listed con point. I'm not adding a star though, because the fan noise is such an important issue (to me). The fans are not variable speed, and there is no "hi-lo-off" switch like there is on one of Icy Dock's other models. What would be really nice is a 4-pin (or even just 3-pin, non-PWM) connector so that the fans could be controlled by the PC motherboard such as Asus QFan. I will probably modify my unit to do exactly that using a Noctua fan and perhaps a thermistor. There are a number of ways the Icy Dock engineers could have solved the fan noise issue, other than sticking 2 40 mm fans in the case and running them at full speed all of the time. Perhaps a future revision of the product will address the fan noise issue. I have not had this unit for very long so I can't comment on well the hot-plugging and such work. Update 7/6/2015: I've been using this product for awhile now and, except for the fan noise (I disconnected the twin 40 mm fans), I like it very much. If you can forgo the fans, unplug them and then this product CAN be used for a silent PC. My drives, SSD and mechanical, operate between 30 C and 40 C (mostly on the low end of that range) without the fans plugged-in in 27 C ambient conditions. The hot plugging works fine. Replacement/extra locking drive bay adapters are now listed here on Amazon by a number of merchants and also elsewhere online (though most of the non-Amazon avenues list the part as out of stock) and are quite pricey at approximately $25/each with shipping.

Kam Defekt an.

Excellent Product that can be made perfect for home use
The product works very well and protects the hard drives when swapping them out. The drive cages offer great physical protection and hides the rear drive connectors preventing the possibility of electrostatic discharge from careless fingers. The locking mechanism is sturdy, precise and reliable. I assume you could swap in and out the drive many thousands of times without any problems. The only issue is the loud noise from the fans and high air throughput. The loud noise is extremely distracting in a home environment and will dominate. Also, the air throughput rate is large and will cause dust build up after a few months. The product is intended for an enterprise environment in a closed room. However, there is a workaround - you can easily disconnect and remove both fans to make this silent, and my SSDs have never gone above 35C even under heavy work load. This will obviously void your warranty and is done at your own risk, but after a year I couldn't take the noise anymore. Another option would be to replace the fans with silent ones purchased online.

Industrial quality loud coolers.
I would put five stars if the cooling fans weren't a bit too loud. I use it as a personal storage in my home desktop PC, and I find it a bit loud for that purpose. Otherwise really good quality design.

LOUD, if you don't mind noise, this is the product for you!
Great design and features works well, and is REALLY loud. Like really loud. It is about 35% as loud as a hair dryer. Despite a military grade metal spec, I just can't get over the noise.
