Still, Talkin' Shit has its moments, as when Lawrence mimics an outraged Joe Jackson: "That's bullshit.... I never hit those kids. I hit Michael maybe once, when he didn't give Tito the syrup." The only downside to the CD--besides Lawrence's reflexive profanity, which gets as grating as a stutter by the end--is that you might know a little more about the comic's weenie than you would like. Disappointing effort by Lawrence
"Talkin' Sh/t" is a downgrade from Martin Lawrence's previous albumĀ Funk It . Here, he gets personal, perhaps--no, definitely too personal, but at times the comedy and humor just falls flat. The album starts off slow but does pick up with three great tracks of observations and jokes in the middle, "Michael Jackson," "Ilaldo," and "White Kids/Black Kids." Here he rips apart celebrities like the Jackson family and Geraldo as well as child rearing. This album's effort isn't anything to rush out and listen to and even fans of Lawrence's comedy may be disappointed.

Martin Lawrence shines on his comedy debut "Martin Lawrence Live: Talkin' S***"
When Martin Lawrence debuted in 1987, it was in the short-lived sitcom "What's Happening Now!!". Around the same time, he began to develop his career as a stand up comedian. While he got a little recognition on the stand-up circut, he got the most fame from his small roles in films like "Hangin' With The Homeboys", "Boomerang" as well as two films in the "House Party" franchise. His fortunes would soon change as he would become the host of Russell Simmons' comedy show "Def Comedy Jam". His exposure from that show lead him to the Fox network to headline his own sitcom "Martin". He then signed with the Atlantic Records subsidiary Eastwest Records America to release his debut album "Martin Lawrence Live: Talkin' S***". The album is Martin Lawrence at his best- complete with all of the hilarity one can muster.He starts the album off with "Boxin'", on which he recounts his short-lived foray into the boxing world. On "Eddie's House", he offers a hilarious take on being invited to the house of fellow actor/comedian Eddie Murphy while they were filming "Boomerang". He tries to console the obese community on "Worrying About Your Weight"- but not without going into Oprah Winfrey's ill-fated dieting attempt. He later details a comedic encounter with singer Michael Jackson, while mocking his father Joe Jackson's appearance on Geraldo Rivera's talk show. Toward the second half of the album, Martin engages in crude humor for the remaining duration of the album. The album's highlight comes when he takes on a heckler who decides to interrupt him during the recording of the album. "Martin Lawrence Live: Talkin' S***" is a great album from the comedian, but it went barely noticed. However, half of the jokes on the recording would resurface almost a year later in his stand-up film "You So Crazy". Despite the excessive profanity and the prolonged lewd nature of the set, Martin Lawrence's album is a welcome addition.

Side Splitting!
For anyone accustomed to the relatively tame Martin seen on his T.V. series, be forewarned, this isn't the same Martin. He's better. From the intro, to the closing "Fartin'& Sh..in'" routine, he lets loose with a barrage of cuss-filled jokes. Best moment on the CD: when Martin is heckled by an audience member during a joke, and proceeds to lay waste to the guy with lip-smacking relish ('now, that WILL be on the album motherf...er'!) without missing a beat. I deducted one star because Mr. Lawrence recycles a lot of material from his film "You So Crazy", but his delivery and momentum are a lot better here. If you're offended by profanity or jokes involving bodily functions (his bit about 'sh-t crumbs' in bed is not for the squeamish, but is VERY FUNNY) then bypass this CD, but for fans of ribald, fearless comedy by a man in peak form, pick it up immediately. A Classic.

Major Laughs!!
This CD was one of Martin Lawrence's best ever! He has always been one of my favorite comics, however, I would much rather have seen this on Video or DVD just to see his reactions and facial expressions. If that were the case, I'm sure it would've been even more hilarious. Overall, I highly recommend this CD, especially to those who have the time to focus their listening entirely on it (i.e. while sitting in traffic like me). LOL!!!

Let me wipe away the tears
hahahahahaha. This is the funniest CD that I have heard since the late great Robin Harris's BeBe's Kids album. For those who havent heard that CD, your missing out on 1 of the best comedy CD's ever created. As far as this Martin CD, it is a must have for any comedy lover. I laughed thru the whole thing and was cryin we Joe Jackson addressed Geraldo as Illado, HAHAHAHAHA. Also, when his boxer friend woke up from being knocked and talkin, bout. "I'd like a Ceaser salad, some twizzlers, all that sh!t" You will not be dissapointed with this cd.
