A Vast Improvement Over the Stampede and Vulcan
Among the very few fully automatic dart guns Nerf has ever made, this one is simply the best. It is smaller, lighter, quieter, and shoots at a faster rate than either the Stampede or the Vulcan. It has a well-made feel to it (as most of Nerf's dart guns do), it feels comfortable, and there are no parts that creak as if they're going to fall off. It's also nowhere near as finicky about being used as the Stryfe, which I think set the high bar for being annoying about having a zillion-and-one ways and so-called reasons for stopping you from firing it. It is possible to do single-shot firing, as well as just holding the trigger to spray darts. The only caveat is that you have to disciplined enough to remember to continuously hold the lower trigger to keep the flywheel motors running -- if you don't, then single-shot firing can easily result in jamming on a dart. It is a shame that they're selling this with just an 18-dart clip -- at least the Stampede was shipped in an elaborate kit that included multiple clips and a bandolier belt to carry them. This gun deserves to be provided with a similar set of equipment. But, to be honest, this gun doesn't really come into its own unless you use the 35-dart drum magazine with it. I've tried this combination, and it really makes this the complete keep-your-enemy's-head-down kind of gun. There are only three complaints that I would put against it... 1) The motors driving the flywheels really are noisier than they need to be -- the motors in the Stryfe are definitely quieter. 2) The ability to attach barrel extensions to the front of this gun is not well implemented -- almost all of the barrel extensions wobble in place a bit when attached to the front. On the other hand, this gun is already sufficiently long that it's hard to see why you would want to make it much longer -- maybe Nerf has some other forthcoming barrel extension in mind? 3) The battery compartment really should have been put towards the rear of this gun -- with the battery compartment being built in up front, this gun is a bit nose-heavy, which makes one-handed operation a little unrealistic -- if the battery compartment had been put towards the back, the weight of the four C-cells could have been supported by a fore-arm. Only the first complaint is what I would call a significant one -- the noisy flywheel motors take away any possibility of sneaking up on somebody with this with the motors running. It's the one advantage that the Stampede and Vulcan have over this gun -- neither of those guns needed to make a sound at all until you were ready to pull the trigger. If you carry this dart gun with you, you'll need to have a simpler manually-operated spring-type dart gun for that initial sneak-attack shot -- and then you can use this dart gun to spray darts when everyone already knows you're there. I recommend this. An update -- 11/6/13... I still recommend this dart gun. However, I also recommend setting aside its 18-dart clear plastic clip and picking up one of the 35-dart drum magazines to use with it, instead. Having had this dart gun for a while, I'm noticing that the spring in the 18-dart clear plastic clip seems to have become somewhat weaker, and the something about the plastic that the clip is made from somehow causes or enables a great deal of friction between the tips of the dart and the interior of the clip. As a result, the darts don't immediately move up the clip as they are fired, which appears to be leading to frequent jamming. The 35-drum magazines seem to be made of a plastic that doesn't suffer from this weird friction issue -- I don't know if it's actually a difference in the plastic material or maybe a slight difference in smoothness of the interior that causes differences in friction -- but the darts do seem to stick more to the interior of the new clear 18-dart clip. Also, frankly, the 35-dart drum was always the better choice for a dart gun like this, anyway. It can go through darts so quickly with its rapid rate of fire that an 18-dart clip is used up too quickly.

Overall a 10/10 fullauto nerf gun!
I honestly really really did love it! Me and my buddies wanted to do a huge nerf battle and I wanted myself a nice motorized fullauto nerf gun with a good dart-mag size (comes with one 18 rounder mag) For delivery, it came in perfect box condition with no huge problems! Only thing I would note is in the item photo it shows the nerf gun with a See-through style dart-magazine but mine came with a full orange non-see through one but never the less the mag works fine and are the exact same other then Visual look (I bought 3 see through dart mags for fun and didn’t notice any performance difference) anyway It takes 4 C-type batteries and it wasn’t that hard to put in. overall from playing with it and using it in the nerf battle it fires pretty darn fast, far, accurately, a really good size/weighted nerf gun, lotta different rails for attachments and adjustable stock! Only real negatives I gotta say is loading all 18 rounds in the dart-magazine will most likely lead to nerf dart Jams. so From testing and playing with it I learn loading the mag to a max of 15 darts makes it run flawlessly with no dart jamming (and that is still a pretty good amount of darts in one mag) and Lastly it is pretty darn loud of a motor I gotta say but that is a forgiven with these automatic nerf guns. So if you are wanting stealth not a good choice But Even with those small down sides I would recommend anyone this nerf gun if they are looking for a great motorized fullauto nerf gun that really just works well and is fun!

Love the auto fire!!!!
I was a Nerf fan (not an enthusiast), but this gun has turned me into a Nerf Nerd! I've got a slew of other Nerf weapons and I've been a fan of the 'blue' bullets (the Elite Strike bullets), so just about any normal Nerf gun can get a little range boost with the elite bullets, but THIS gun adds range to any Nerf bullet put in IT!!! I threw some old 'orange' Nerf darts in a clip for some fun target practice and it gave the old darts about the same 'oomph' (range and velocity) as the new ones!!!! I was thoroughly impressed with that! It is battery operated so that was to be somewhat expected :) The automatic operation is a dream!! I'm seriously buying a 50 dart drum next to throw in this thing so I can fully enjoy it! The 18 dart clip they give is such a tease it's horrible!!!! :) The auto fire is AMAZING!!! It is a Nerf gun so that right there gives it 4 stars from my fandom of Nerf guns :) The auto fire capability, the fact that it launches all my darts so far, has surprising accuracy for a toy auto dart gun and it's size give it another 4 stars, haha :) So now for the cons: it IS battery operated, 4 C batteries at that .... :/ .. BUT, I've been playing with it pretty consistently for a few days now and the batteries have held up pretty well! So it does make good use of them, BUT it is 4 C batteries :/ .. ugh .. that fact right there demotes a star just because it's 4 C batteries .... it's 2014 now and we have smart computers capable of lasting numerous hours on a single charge from a battery that takes only hours to recharge, yet we can't invent a more efficient 'dart launching' mechanism that DOESN'T take 4 C batteries???? .. ugh.... That being said, I like to hack my toys and this one is BEGGING to be hacked, so my first goal is to hack the batteries for something rechargeable and longer lasting... Aside from the 4 C batteries thing, this is a GREAT toy to run around and terrorize my kids (real and animal) and wife :)

Great Auto-blaster from nerf
Couple of things to talk about: 1) This is the Elite version of the Nerf Stampede; so it is fully AUTOMATIC. Compared to the Nerf Stampede, it is MUCH, MUCH lighter as it only requires 4 C batteries rather than 6 D batteries. Weight distribution is slightly towards the front as that's where the battery tray is located. 2) This blaster uses a flywheel mechanism rather than a plunger system, so your darts will not get too damaged after repeated usage. It definitely is the Elite version of the Stampede. No frayed darts after much usage. 3) Like all flywheel blasters, you can mod it by increasing the voltage. This will increase the rate of fire (ROF) and increase range a bit. Beware that there are thermo-resistors, so the blaster will shut down if the flywheels are revving for long periods; ESPECIALLY if you increase the voltage to anything higher than 8 volts. 4) The 18 dart clear clip; while it's nice to see how many darts you have left, it's also very visible to you opponents. This wasn't an issue with the older, solid orange clips of the same size. If you want to know how much darts you have left, it's better to spray paint or cover the sides and front of the clip, that way only the rear portion is visible to you. Also, the clear clip is a bit loose when inserted into the blaster compared to the older clips. I don't know if mine is a defective one or not, but when I wiggle the blaster side-to-side, the clip wiggles around loosely. The older clips and drum magazines don't shake compared to the clear one. 5) Love the aesthetics of the blaster itself and it's tactical rails. Makes it seem more "realistic" and you can attach any accessories that uses the N-strike rail attachment system. The adjustable stock was surprisingly comfortable and sturdy. I just wish there were more than 2 settings - fully collapsed or fully extended. Only con about it is that the handle is a bit small. I'm not that big of a guy, 5' 6'' only, so my hands aren't huge like some people; but the back part of the handle digs into my hand a bit, especially the sling mount on the handle. Overall, the best flywheel blaster Hasbro has put out so far.

Great Blaster turned Excellent w/ the right fore-grip!
Other reviews already cover the basics; performance, accuracy, form & function, etc... If you're in the market for a full-auto Nerf blaster then this is your blaster - you can read/watch all the other online reviews. Here are some practical tips & observations: * 18-round clips don't do this blaster justice. You're better off with the 25-round drum mag from the Rampage or better yet the 35-round drum mag from the Raider. If you are set with 18-rounds, then the 18-round drum mag from the older Alpha-trooper is the best configuration, making the profile of this blaster more ergonomic to handle. * For straps, buy some paracord! Use a simple loop & monkey-fist knot to provide a semi-permanent attachment point on the rear posts flanking the rear sight port. (Use 2 separate loops for each post.) Make another paracord loop for the attachment post on the bottom of the trigger grip. * When using the 35-round drum mag, a fore-grip is a must. This grip is a perfect & exact fit: Military Law Enforcement Polymer Vertical fore-grip Battle Grip 1913 Picatinny or weaver Rail Configuration . Check out the pictures in the customer gallery. * Accuracy will depend greatly on the health & quality of your darts. Both the N-Strike Streamlines and the new N-Strike Elite Darts work... But beware that the darts start to show a "pinching" wear-and-tear on the shaft of the dart just below the tip due to the flywheel mechanism. This is expected, but can shorten the life span of accurate darts in any flywheel blaster. (Traditional spring/manual blasters don't have this issue with dart "pinch") * Trigger technique is more "delicate" that other semi-auto flywheel blasters. The entire dart pusher assembly is automated. Other semi-auto blasters have a manual dart push directly driven by the trigger - not the case with this blaster. So, your trigger pull force is very minimal - just click it to launch a dart! No need to "squeeze" the trigger to chamber/load/push a dart. * The collapsible stock only has 2 positions: Fully Extended or Fully Collapsed. Bummer! The older Raider stock had several click-stops on custom fit the stock length to your body type. Not the case with this stock! * If you use a bigger/heavier clip, keep in mind that it must be seated correctly at all times! Any deviation and you risk getting a dart-jam due to misalignment of the dart coming out of the clip. Check out the picks in the user gallery for examples of how the blaster looks with the various clip configurations and the after-market fore-grip. Thanks for reading! Happy Nerfing!

Mind Officially Blown
Wow, what I say about such an amazing blaster. From what I read, this is being called the Stampede of the Elite series, but it is so much better! I love the design, and I am amazed at how much fire power you can get for only 4 C batteries versus the D batteries of the Stampede. I have also had dart shredding issues with my Stamped which I never get with this gun. It feels very solid and uses the same firing style of the Stryfe and Stockade (Flywheel), but also has a single fire + automatic fire mode. I did notice that you get about 10 shots before it slows down a lot and you need to stop and let it rev up a little more before continuing firing. The stock on the back doesn't come off, but it appears to be due to the room needed for the mechanics to work. It has the same jam door style as the Hail-Fire. Also, the 18-round clear clip is a nice bonus and doesn't have the jamming issues that the Stryfe has. Pros: 18-round clear clip Light considering firepower Bang for battery use (Uses C when I would expect D for this kind of power) Solid sight design Large jam door Rifled barrel Flywheel charge system 5 tactical rails Lightweight Cons: Non-detachable stock You can fire 10 rounds automatically before speed decreases Needs larger batteries than the other N-Strike Elite blasters Overall love this blaster and it is now my constant-use blaster.

Sadly not a good gun
My son is super protective of all his things, so I was quite disappointed when his new nerd gun began jamming after the third or fourth clip run through it. I know he cared for it and his darts carefully gathering all of them after shooting. The gun just appears designed to fail. It consistently jams every second or third dart. It begins to feed the dart but jams in the firing chamber an then gets bent up by the loading mechanism. He is super disappointed in this purchase. The gun itself looks and feels great. If it would fire without jamming it would be five stars easy. Unfortunately with the jamming the gun is almost totally useless as you spend more time clearing jams than actually having fun. If anyone has advise as to how to fix the jamming I would welcome it. I really want this to be a good nerf gun, but as it is now it is not.

Troublesome dart gun
So, I purchased this for my 8 yr-old son for Christmas. He chose this blaster himself to add to his collection of Nerf dart guns. It reminds me of an Uzi. I did not open the package after being delivered, but upon looking at it, there was no damage so I wrapped it. After opening it for Xmas and taking it out of the box I attempted to open the battery compartment. There are 3 screws that secure the compartment in place to the front of the gun underneath the muzzle. 2 on the top on either side of the muzzle and one at the bottom of the compartment under the muzzle. All 3 screws turned easily, only the bottom screw would not come loose from its anchor. Nothing I did would get that screw out and I was therefore unable to remove the battery compartment to install the batteries. Contacted Amazon, since it was purchased through them. They would not send me a replacement, since they conveniently no longer sold it. Only sold through 3rd party sellers that were now asking 2-3 times the original asking price and none of the major retailers had it in stock anymore. Fortunately, Amazon did refund my money on the item and did not ask for it back. Now that it was mine to do with as I pleased, I did take some screws out below the battery compartment and pried apart the body of the weapon and was able to get the anchor that the bottom screw was attached to out and therefore remove the compartment. After finally getting the small square washer that anchored the screw inside the gun off, I was able to insert the batteries and finally try the gun. I have read other reviews about this gun and they were not that great. I only wish I had read these reviews prior to purchasing the gun. With a fully loaded magazine properly inserted, I depress the button that activates the motor and then pull the trigger and nothing happens. The motor is running, and i see a dart in the chamber and the firing mechanism trying to push the dart out, but it can't quite do it. I release the trigger, but not the button running the motor. Then all of a sudden it fires a dart. I depress the trigger again and then all the darts start coming out rapidly. I try this 4 times and the same thing happens every time. When it works, it's pretty cool, but it is frustrating that it does not work immediately. Seems like this is too common an occurrence so I wouldn't recommend this gun. I talked to Hasbro and the gun is still being manufactured, so choose wisely.

great buy!!!
this gun is so awesome!!!! first,it is full auto so you can rapid fire it without reloading again and again.it has adjustable stock so it is very comfortable. its built sight is kind of useless but still it makes it look cool.it has an 18 dart see - through mag which has a very good capacity and also looks cool.it can be modified a lot as it has 5 tactical rails.it also has a barrel attachment point so you can add barrels like the retaliator one.but the flip - sight is pretty childish.my only complaint is that it requires 4 c sized batteries which makes the gun quite heavy.overall, the gun is great and worth its price.
