Enjoyable ending for fans of the series, although slightly underdeveloped
This was a relatively enjoyable and pleasant to the series. It had the right amount of drama and character development to be satisfying, and not too shocking. However, I would have liked to see what happened after the winner of the selection was chosen, especially with regard to implementing new laws and the rebel forces etc. I feel like this is my main gripe about the story and its conclusion.Saying that, I did still enjoy this book more than the second in the series (hence the half point awarded in my star rating), but there was a lot lacking in terms of undeveloped ideas that prevents me from giving this the full 4 stars.Firstly, although the book had far less Marlee in it than I was comfortable with (boo - so much more could have been done with her storyline and relationship with Carter, but I digress), there is a lot of development in terms of other characters. For one, Celeste finally got the character progression she deserved and frankly, much needed. She was an excellent stand-out character in this book, and I would have loved more from her. In addition, Aspen managed to remove himself from my list of characters I want to punch in the face, which is definitely unexpected. Thank god that ship has sailed.America is far more level-headed and on point in this book, and although there's some sorrow and heartbreak for her, things feel much more hopeful and I liked that. The Prince also improved in temperament too (with some faltering here and there), but there was definitely an overall leveling among many of the characters, which was much appreciated. However, some of the storylines which I anticipated to be BIG in this concluding novel sort of, well, fizzled out. The plot surrounding the King and his strange demeanor is never fully explained and is definitely cut off before it even begins. The rebel element is the most prominent in this book, however even in this regard, it is underdone and could definitely have benefited from more development and prominence. As mentioned, I would love to have seen more after the conclusion of the selection, and it would have been interesting to see the characters try to approach and tackle the conflict and inequality in the country. It is briefly mentioned, but no outcomes are concretely specified or explained. The books ends on a solely romantic note, and although I'm all for genuine romance, I would have enjoyed more of a focus on the dystopian aspects of the story, or at least more of a follow up addressing these elements. One positive is that this book is far less catty and tiresome than the second, and I would recommend finishing that so you can get on with reading and appreciating the developments in this conclusion. The girls are far more cohesive, and less competitive, and it is a much needed and welcome change.Overall, however, this is bound to be a warmly received conclusion for fans of the series, and makes more a relatively fun trilogy for newcomers, if you're fans of the romance genre.

There Can Be Only One (No Spoilers)
I have absolutely loved this series from start to finish and have read the first 3 books; The Selection (The Selection, Book 1) , The Elite (The Selection, Book 2) and The One (The Selection, Book 3) in three days, which nowadays with two little ones is few and far between when I manage to do this but I have been hooked to this series from the first few pages. I can't wait for the next book in the series; The Heir (The Selection, Book 4) (The Selection series) which I have pre-ordered and is due out at the beginning of May this year. The only thing I can compare this series to if asked would be one of those American reality shows like The Batchelor but set in a dystopian future. I would never watch anything like The Batchelor as it's definitely not my sort of thing and so I am extremely surprised how much I absolutely loved these books to be honest but I did and can't wait for the next one.The Selection series is set in a dystopian future after World War 4 and following America being taken over at one point by China a man called Gregory Illea manages to help the country regain independence. As a result he becomes King and renames the country Illea. However that is not the only thing he re-organises and he re-organises the country into Castes which number from One to Eight. If you are a One you are a member of the Royal Household and if you are an Eight you are essentially a beggar on the streets. If you haven't read the first book in the series, The Selection then you really do need to read it to know what is going on as the books are a continuation of each other and not meant to be stand alone books and so I would advise you to read no further if you haven't read the first book as whilst there are no spoilers for this book, The Elite there will be some for The Selection.Seventeen year old America Singer is now down to the last 4 girls in The Selection and has made the decision that Prince Maxon is the one for her. She doesn't necessarily want to become Queen but she does love Maxon and wants to be with him. America decides to truly compete to win Maxon but the other three girls in the running and especially one of them also all want Maxon too. Just who will Maxon choose and will buried secrets come back to haunt her? Add to the other girls all wanting Maxon (and one in particular seeming to have returned feelings from Maxon along with the King very clearly disliking her and doing as much as possible to have her kicked out of the competition does America stand any chance?..........A brilliant series which I have very much loved reading and can't wait to read The Heir in a few months time. I was especially shocked at a few turns of events near the end - one of which I have known must have been coming since book one but the other one quite blew a hole through my head and concerned a character I'd grown to really like. If you like Dystopian Romance than I think you will enjoy this series and hopefully as much as myself. The Selection (The Selection, Book 1)The Elite (The Selection, Book 2)The One (The Selection, Book 3)The Heir (The Selection, Book 4) (The Selection series)

The Selection Series by Kiera Cass
adored this series. Is it just me, or do you ever feel so overwhelmed with feelings that you just have to stop reading the book and just meditate on the words that you have read and let them sink in for a little bit. I had to do this when I finished The Elite and I had to wait a WHOLE YEAR for the next book to come out.The wait was truly agonizing but the whole series turned out positively amazingly and it is, in my opinion, the most perfect romance novel. It is my go to series when I need a pick me and a happy ending. It gives me that warm, snuggling feeling a hug gives you. I honestly fell in love with Maxon, it was love at first sentence. I shipped America and Maxon from the start. He truly cared for her and gave her everything she asked which was not very much. I felt his sincerity and genuine feelings from the beginning. However, I also understood why some people found Maxon difficult to fall in love with from the beginning. He has been put in a situation where he must pick a wife out of 35 woman and because of that he has spread his eggs between them all. It's completely understandable why America feels jealous and can't express her feelings for him straight away. It is the only way Maxon is able to pick a wife since he cannot leave the palace. Also, due to the fact that America just had her heart broken right before she went by Aspen. Someone who she had already planned her whole life with and was willing to give up everything for him. When she is first arrives, she is trying to heal her broken heart. Really makes you feel sorry for America, she views it as a way to get away from the situation and heal.Every girl who has been chosen is there for one reason: to marry Prince Maxon. (Who on earth doesn't want to marry a Prince? Come on, don't deny it. We have all had that fantasy and wondered what it would be like to be Kate Middleton. I would love for Prince Maxon to be real and get the chance to wed him.) Anyway, I am totally digressing. America is there so she can heal and give money to her family which is paid from the Palace. You find out that the girls there want different things from Maxon and will fight to get him and what they want. But also, America develops friendships with the girls there, something she didn't expect.Obviously, there were some trials along the way. Love isn't always that simple, especially when you are put in the kind of situation America was in. She is battling jealously and indecisiveness towards her feelings for Maxon and her feelings for Aspen. Her feelings for Aspen are still lingering in the background and because of that, they hold her back from what she truly wants and that is Maxon. Maxon is well aware of her previous heartbreak and is so kind, gentle and patient with America and never pushes her into anything she doesn't want to do. He is a true gentleman and loved her from the beginning.I feel this book has everything you could ask for, from unbelievable romance to making your heart pound and sitting on the edge of your seat, biting your nails desperate to know more. It has me gripped from start to finish. This series claimed my heart, my soul and my mind and it led me along with every line. it was absolutely breathtaking and I could not put it down. I could read this series over and over again and not get bored. I felt that it captured the true essence of love. That yes you might have disagreements within your relationship but never forget to show love to the closest person in your life. As long you continue to show love to one another everything will be alright.

A thoroughly enjoyable end to the series!
All three of the Selection series have almost exactly the same number of pages. This is something that I have greatly enjoyed about Kiera Cass' series. A lot of YA trilogies/series' tend to get bigger as they go along as the writers try to cram more and more story in, as if they're trying to stretch it out needlessly long. Not with this series. It knew what it's strengths were and stuck to it. I was worried the last book in this series would get deeply involved into the politics of the world that America inhabits, but to my pleasant surprise it did not.It would have also been easy for the love triangle to swamp this book. Again, to my pleasant surprise it did not.I'm not going to lie, this book isn't going to stretch your mind to any great extent. It's a fun, and the darker undertones of the plot don't drag down the reader while still giving them a little food for thought to chew on once you've turned the last page.
