I do not know the gauge of the wire but we have tested it. It does the job. Trip wire works.

Its rated 24 gauge, if its Vietnam era surplus it's still good for many uses.

Q: How much wire is on each of the 4 spools?

Each spool is 40'. So 40' x 4 spools= 160'. My only complaint is that the way the wire is trapped is on these sharp pins that stick out. They could puncture a pack.
