The Complete Book of Home Canning

As for the information - good. As for the editing - very, very poor. Riddled with mistakes, which makes me wonder if all the instructions and times are correct. Having to double-check the USDA website to make sure the book is correct kind of defeats the purpose of having the book.

I bought four books on canning. I should have started with this one and waited on the rest. It’s a great overall canning book to have. I’m starting with all of the info in here and I probably could have skipped one or two of the other books. So definitely a great starting point. Good food safety info and a lot of recipes. Highly recommend.

I just got this book in today. I was very excited to get this book as I am new to pressure canning and it was recommended to me for both learning and recipes. But I've already found a formatting error that caused some confusion until I figured it out. Now I'm worried there are other errors in the book. I am already nervous about pressure canning. I guess relying on the USDA to supply an error free book was asking too much. (Did nobody proof read this thing????). I'll need to verify information before starting. The whole purpose in getting this book was to so I would have one go-to place for information. Disappointed.

A must for the home canner. You can get all the info online for free but I like this hard copy so I don't have to be on the internet to find the information. Also it is from the USDA.

I love this book! I am a first time canner and I have so many questions and I can find answers to all my questions in this book. It has good recipes but not as many as some books but that’s ok because it can help me can properly and without getting botulism. So if you are a first time canner get this book because it helps you understand certain principles behind canning certain vegetables and meats. It is the most informative book I have read and I have read many canning books bc I am OCD and have to know everything......LOL

Every time I open it I find a new recipe to try, good detailed guide to canning for the beginner.

I wished for more recipes and suggestions for using some of the final products. This is great resource book for proper canning and I'm grateful to have it in my home but I'm also glad for the Ball books and others that provide variety of recipes beyond the safe canning information. I think both books are valuable and glad to have this one.
