Vanish: A Rizzoli & Isles Novel

Another great Rizzoli and Isles book
If you enjoy mysteries, Rizzoli and Isles books are for you. Jane and Maura are well-developed characters, and the plot will keep you reading all night. Jane is the passionate Boston police detective who will use any means to catch the killer. Maura is the cool and collected medical examiner who uses science and her brains to the same end. This time the story revolves around girls brought over from Russia, supposedly for good jobs. Instead, these young girls are used as prostitutes. They are raped repeatedly every night, and the brutal men who use them do not even consider them as human. One night a customer goes too far and kills a girl, and two brave and scared girls are forced to flee the only place they can call a "home." It's up to Jane and Maura to find them and the killers. Even though is on maternity leave, she cannot let this case go until her life and her newborn daughter face death. This will definitely keep you turning pages. Highly recommended.

Slick
dialogue with constant forward moving action makes this Gerritsen novel a pleasure to read. Jane and Maura have no scenes together, so that was a bit strange. The usual Boston PD support players are reduced to walk on appearances as Gabriel, Jane’s husband, is the main character in this story. A whole host of government spooks fill in the secondary characters trying to solve this who-done-it. Jane is shown with a lot more emotion than her usual rage against everything. She’s just given birth for the first time, perhaps this is a new Jane? Whatever the reason, I enjoyed this evolved character SO much! While much of the mystery surrounding this story was obvious, it wasn’t annoying from my reader POV due to the good editing, story tension and characters you just want to win!

Love This Series
Dr. Gerritsen never fails to deliver. This is another well-plotted thriller with characters that become more layered with each book. Even if you've not read others in the series, she'll give you enough back story to jump on for another thrill ride. The medical and legal details are accurate, yet understandable to a layman and she doesn't have to resort to over the top sex and violence to fill a page as other authors do.

Suspenseful thriller
This is a must read for Tess Gerritsen fans. I have read all of her books and they never disappoint. The writing is always insightful, descriptive and graphic. Her knowledge of forensic science, the government, and the law is obvious through her writings. This is a slight deviation from other books that are related to medical mysteries and investigations. This novel deals with the horror and tragedy in human trafficking and sex slavery that occurs in this country. This is the untold story of how young girls from other countries are lied to and smuggle into this country to become human sex slaves and what happened to them if they disobey. You will not be able to put the book down once the actions start to roll , starting with Jane Rizzoli being taken hostage as she is about to give birth, to the mystery behind the motivation of the hostage taker. This is probably one of Gerritsen’s best mystery yet. Don’t miss it.

To Vanish. To Disappear...
This story is about a lot of things. The dead rising, a hostage situation, motherhood, sex trafficking. Read the book and you'll see what I mean. We get to a point here where the characters evolve. Most of the development here goes towards Detective Rizzoli and her husband Agent Dean, the latter of whom has emotions and feelings challenged. Dr. Isles role plays a big role here but her character development isn't as big as Rizzoli's. But she helps uncover some key points in the investigation. Then there is the journey of a lost soul as she makes through a hell that would make purgatory seem like a blessing.I recommend this book to anyone whose a fan of Boston mysteries, good thrillers or even Thomas Harris and Michael Connelly. It is only the 5th of Gerritsen's series that I have read and it has to be one of the darkest if not thee darkest. You will feel sympathy, joy, pain and you just might cry at one point or another. I promise that this book won't be a disappointment.

GREAT...
I love, love Tess Gerritsen and the Rizzoli and Isles duo! Vanish, another exciting read, did not disappoint. The plight of young girls who are brought here on the pretext of good jobs, only to be forced into sex slavery is the main plot of this book. Reading about this tears at your heart, since we all know this happens all the time, everywhere. This book was well written, and with great character development, as is usual for Ms. Gerritsen. You don't want to pass this one up!

Well done!
This is a mystery involving people you feel you know, and care about. The story is believable. The author does a great job of weaving a story that keeps your interest, along with elements of surprise that even those of us who read mysteries all the time might not have expected. It was very entertaining and well crafted. There is just the right amount of political intrigue to make you look over your shoulder and wonder who you can trust. Well done!

Second best book in the series so far.
Tess has finally made it back to what made her books so great. I loved the first two and then was only so so about the next two, but this book was fantastic from beginning to end. I could not put it down, the story the characters and their development were all great. As a guy, it is hard to understand what a woman potentially goes through in a situation like Mila, Olena and Jane all find themselves in this story, but Tess does a fantastic job of bringing it all to life. I am not ashamed at all to say that tears were building up in the last chapter. READ and find out why.

It doesn't get any better than Gerritsen.
For those of you who enjoy chilling, well-written thrillers and still haven't read Gerritsen I have only one thing to say: oh, how I envy you! You have still so much unputdownable reading to do! So don't wait and treat yourself to some goosebumps, sleepless nights and breathless page-turning.'Vanish' is my fifth book by Gerritsen and the second one read in one sitting and well into the early morning. I decided to follow Rizzoli and Isles series in order (i.e. the Surgeon, the Apprentice, the Sinner and Body Double) and I would advise one to do the same as one really gets to know the main characters. Detecitve Jane Rizzoli and Dr Maura Isles might be for some readers just a background for gruesome crimes, but for me the crime wouldn't be the same without them! They carry the plot brilliantly and always with a dose of humour. In this book, dr Isles skips a heartbeat when a corpse of a beautiful Jane Doe in the morgue opens her eyes. She is even more astonished when the very same woman kills a security guard and takes her hostage a short time after she is transported to the hospital - the same one where Jane Rizzoli is about to deliver a baby. But things will get even more complicated and there are a couple of plot twits along the way. All in all, it's a gripping story but probably the least believeable from the ones by Gerritsen I read. But if you are willing to accept a couple of coincidences and Rizzoli solving the crime with a crying baby in her arms, you should be in for some engrossing reading.

Rollercoaster of a journey
If books could be a theme ride, this would be a rollercoaster....it had me gripped from the start, I was sat on the edge of my seat, and I didn't want to get off my journey....The story is part of Tess Gerritsen's Rizolli and Isles series, based on the lives of Detective Jane Rizolli, who is heavily pregnant in this book, and Pathologist Maura Isles. The book's focus is on a hostage situation in a hospital when Rizolli is going for her check up. The story kind of has 2 parallels of how the hostage situation became so, without giving away the whole reason until the end of the book....it also shows how the friendship between Rizolli and Isles develops, and how they really care for each other beyond being colleagues. I only got onto these books as I had read all of Patricia Cornwell's books, and I must say, if books were like punches, Tess Gerritsen would win hands down on any boxing matches between these 2 authors!

Worth buying.....you'll finish it in days
I've read the previous titles in the Jane Rizzoli series and actually thought that nothing could top The Surgeon but I have to say that this really comes close.Very tense from the outset and quite graphic in places, I found this so engrossing that it was impossible to leave this book alone until I finished reading it. The basis of the story whilst somewhat predictable in some ways was nevertheless intriguing in that it's told from the point of view of the different characters involved. I think reference to the emotional aspect of the story has been made but I think it actually lends to the story rather than acting as a distraction. Without giving too much away, I don't think a crime novel which has human traffiking, sexual slavery and exploitation at its core could not end up with a emotional component attached to it. In my opinion, the two went hand in hand with each other quite well and did not diminish the quality of this book in any way whatsoever.Once again Tess Gerritsen has done a fabulous job so without any further ado, I'm now off to read The Mephisto Club.

Manicure?
Possibly one of my favourites in the whole series, nail biting at times.
