O.K.
I have had two previous incarnations of Magic Jack. This was the most difficult to install. On the upside, It can be used directly from the modem so It does not need the computer to be left on. The one warning I would issue about magic Jack. I purchased three of the older version one for each of my sisters so I opened three accounts. At the one year mark received a reminder that a new payment was due, I paid for a multi year subscription and received a receipt for it. Then six months later we all received emails saying the time was up. No amount of communication could get a reasonable response.

Are you wasting your money with the phone company? You should definitely get a MagicJack!
Awesome phone service for an extremely good price. We had terrible, intermittent DSL service and a standard home phone service with TDS Telecom for nearly $70 per month and decided to switch to ETC with 20Mb Cable Internet only for about $50 per month. I purchased the MagicJack Express and have been using it continuously since July 2015. It came with 3 months of free service. I ported my old home phone number, that I had for 15 years, to MagicJack for a one time $10 fee. I renewed for another 5 years for $99 plus tax, so other than the opt in 911 service that I pay $16 per YEAR for, I have no other phone bill until my 5 years are up in the fall of 2020. I connected it near my WiFi router and connected it via ethernet cable, plugged it in to the outlet and plugged it into my telephone wall jack. (disconnect your phone company connection (the rj11 plug) in the phone box on the outside of your house before back feeding it through your home telephone wiring). It now supplies all phone jacks throughout my home. It has perfect sound quality now that I set up a couple of items in my router. I gave the MagicJack Express a static IP address and then forwarded ports 5060 and 5070. Prior to that, I was only choppy once in a while. Now it is crystal clear! I suggest you get a MagicJack to keep a home phone handy in case your cell phone doesn't work, battery is dead, or a small child lives with you that might need to call for help. It is a cheap insurance policy. Don't forget to add 911 service online in your account. You can't beat it! Oh, you also get unlimited local and long distance calling and the free smart phone app that rings simultaneously with your MagicJack at home, all included for the same price.

Been using MagicJack (MJ) Express for a week, and it has been flawless. Before making the switch from my 2 POTS landlines, I read many articles and reviews, and watched many videos about the various MJ models. So, I was apprehensive about switching. The thinness of info on the MJ website did not help either. But it turned out that much of what one finds online about MJ is old and does not apply to the latest models. Specifically, I noticed that the MJ site no longer offers the MJ Plus. I eventually realized that the MJ Express is the latest model, and it was claimed that MJ Express had better voice quality, could be used on trips, and would handle fax w/o problems or special arrangements. My MJ Express installed (connected to my OTT DSL) and authorized quickly and without any issues. I opted to get a new phone number thinking that a new number would have been unused for a while, which would diminish nuisance calls. There was some choice in area code and exchange, and I was assigned a number that is easily remembered. Voice quality is better than the old POTS lines (which were good), fax works great (and is compatible with the home answering machine), there is no perceptible ring-answer delay, 3 line-powered phones work fine (as well as cordless phones), home alarm connection works fine, and there have been no undesired incoming calls. And I'm avoiding ~ $75/month for the 2 POTS lines that MJ replaced and avoiding the constant political and solicitation calls that came with them.I also had occasion to use MJ’s tech support chat, and it, too, worked great for me. The tech was very polite, knew her stuff, and was thorough. (And I suggest that having a good outcome with MJ chat depends heavily on how clearly and thoroughly one describes his problem.)

Buy New, Buy as an upgrade, but don't buy the same version you already have.
UNLESS YOU ARE UPGRADING FROM AN OLDER VERSION, CONTACT THEM FOR A REPLACEMENT. IF YOU ARE BUYING FOR THE FIRST TIME, I WISH YOU ALL MY LUCK. I love magicjack. I recently purchased a MagicJack Express, because my MagicJack Plus no longer would let me dial out on my phone. My home screen would always say 'No Audio Found'. I have had it for several years, with no problems. I went online, and tried various remedies that people with similar problems found to work. I read where dealing with tech support was horrible, a waste of time, and some customers would never buy another. I am so glad I didn't have their experiences! After trying several remedies, I just felt that it had failed. I thought a recent storm maybe caused it, I don't know for certain.I gave up trying to repair the problem. I didn't know what to do, and I had recently signed up for 5 years of service, and have had the same number for many years. Carrots(my wife), suggested a new MJ, and after finding no real difference between the Express and Go, other than length of free service and price, I bought the Express for about $20. When I installed and activated it, IT WAS ONLY THEN THEY TOLD ME THEN THAT I COULD ONLY USE MY ACCOUNT IF I WAS UPGRADING FROM AND OLDER VERSION. Otherwise, my wife told me, I would have to contact customer support for a current model replacement, but only after a lengthy try to fix it with tech support. Boy did I get lucky.
