Conversations with Simon
Fifth book in the series of paperbacks which collect issues of the horror comic 'Outcast'. The story of a small town troubled by demonic possession, and the one man who seems to have the power to deal with it.This collects issues twenty five to thirty of the comic. Running them all together into one long narrative. It contains strong language and adult moments, so is only for mature readers. And it's not a jumping on point, so new readers should start with volume one.Picking up from the end of the last book, Kyle's attempt to leave with his family hits problems. But a stranger comes to his aid. With shocking news. Both he and the Reverend then start down new paths. As an even bigger danger appears...A pleasant surprise as a volume. After the excellent second season of the tv version, I wasn't sure if this would be as strong as that. But whilst this takes a different approach to the storylines - think of the tv version as a companion to it, like the Walking Dead - this does manage to move along nicely as well.A fair bit happens. There are some answers. Not the most direct ones, but even so. There are some interesting moral discussions. And good character development for both the leads. And good character moments for certain others on the opposite side as well. It's a bit of a bridging volume, so not quite a five star read, but a good one in a series that manages to move along nicely.
