These are great, and still available here!
Needed a switch to add a couple of new computers to the home network. Went to two local big -mart stores, and 'we don't carry those anymore, you'll have to by a wireless AP. See, it has those port thingys in the back too." Lets see $70 for an AP I don't need, or this. I upgraded to the 8 port this time so I have more room if we ever need it in the future, so it cost $28. Definitely buying this. Kudo's to Amazon for still selling needed hardware. In case you are wondering, these things last forever. We have been using them at work for 12+ years now, and the only failure we have ever had was a power cord that failed after a student tripped over it. Switch was fine (even after falling 4 feet to the tile floor), needed a new power cord though.

Plug and Play! - This was FAR TOO EASY to set up!
Plug and Play! I was all tensed up and apprehensive wondering what new terminology I would need to learn, and what obstacles I would need to overcome in order to expand my home computer network to cover the added wired computers, gaming consoles, Roku boxes and a security video DVR system. I simply plugged in the wall wart into a power strip, added an ethernet cable to my main router, and lo, and behold, I now have more capability then I expect I will ever need. Sure, I could simplify things by making everything use wi-fi signals, but I prefer the stability and higher-speed of ethernet wiring. This was far too easy to set up. There were no physical or software switches to set, no new terminology to learn, and lastly no hours-long talks to the friendly tech support folks from foreign lands. This home computer network expansion was fast, cheap and FAR TOO EASY ! ! ! - Try it - You'll like it!

compact, solid
This is a very compact, solid unit, but has a detail which I find particularly irritating, the location of the power connection. The activity lights are located directly alongside each I/O connector, so it is obviously intended to be "front wired". Yet someone felt that having the power connection on the side opposite all other connections was just fine. Do you like wiring connections on both the front and back of your electronic (or other) appliances? It would be FAR better to locate activity indicator lights on both sides of the housing. This unit includes a comparatively small, lightweight remote power supply integrated with an ordinary 2 pole electrical connector. The longer axis of the power supply is at right angles to the longer axis of a duplex receptacle, which is nice in most situations. Still, for 7.5VA output it could be smaller, and in my particular installation the "plug" of course would be better if it were oriented differently.Time alone will tell how durable and reliable the unit it, but it certainly is a mechanically solid unit.I've had it almost a year now, no crashes. If the power connection wasn't in such a lousy location I'd give it 5 stars.

Netgear FS108, quiet, cool, easy
Please note that they are and apparently have been shipping a later model than that pictured/described. The box is marked ProSafe 8 Port Fast Ethernet Switch FS108 v2. The unit is smaller (6'W x 4"D x 1"H), in a metalcase and has an external power supply (wall wart). Here is a link to HP's site;[...]It requires no configutation to set up as all ports are auto sensing for speed (10/100Mbps) and Auto Uplink for connection to PC, Modem (cable/DSL), or other devices with either straight or crossover cables. Simply plug and play in about 5 to 10 minutes.Speed tests indicate no change in upload/download for my PC. It runs very cool as opposed to reports on other Netgear models. Have only had it installed a short time so I have no reliability info. Note that the warranty on the unit is quite long (5 years unit, 2 years power adapter)

works great. I have a problem with the power cord ...
It arrived on time, works great. I have a problem with the power cord plug, it seems to be bulky and doesn’t quite stay in the outlet just right. The plug is kind of big and gravity takes place and pulls the plug out of the outlet just enough to were in need to plug it back in because I’ve lost power to the port and I get a message on my TV that tells me..

Bulletproof construction and flawless performance. The wired internet speed is significantly superior to wireless.
You can sense the quality from the packaging right down to the product. The router has worked flawlessly for me. Has very solid construction, just the right amount of indicator lights, and is only as big as it has to be. I used it to expand to some additional wired connections in my home where the wireless signal was not reaching. Typical me, I blew right past the instructions and it was intuitive enough to set up on it's on. I know wireless is the primary connection for most people these days, but if you have the ability to run a wired connection you will appreciate the extra speed and bandwidth. Highly recommended.

Good switch saves money and easy installation.
I have a slightly complicated SoHo so let me try to map this out for you in case someone is looking for a similar installation. I have a WiFi access point right after the router. From there I have installed a second Wifi router that is in slave mode so it wont try to assign addresses. Then after that I have this switch which connects several device by hard wire to the last router. Everything works great with no communications problem. This switch does what it says it does and performs excellent because I have not had to reboot it. Simply mount it in your desired location and plug everything in.

Best Hub on the Market
After running out of ports on my Netgear 4 Port 10 Mbs that has been a solid performer for 10 years. There was no doubt in my choice for an upgrade. Not only did it improve my ability to move files across my Lan, but it improved my Lan Multiplayer games. Also it improved my Internet speed on all my PC's. It is still small and compact enough to mount it inside my phone company's cabinet in the basement so the connections from the router to it, and to my built in home lines only need 12" Cat 5 cables. Many other brands are so big they would have needed to mount elsewhere with 6 ft cables or longer. What a mess that would have been.
