This was such a disappointment. Shipping took four weeks as it came directly from China. When I opened the envelope, I found one (1) tray, instead of the 12 sets advertised. ONE flimsy little tray. Return is at your on cost - to CHINA!!!! Insanity. DO NOT ORDER THIS.

The only improvements this could have are the following:1) the lip on the clear dome appears to be a little shorter than other kits (with black inserts and white bases) I have from other companies in other years, and sometimes when grabbing an assembled unit it pops off and you could drop it quite easily. This also can happen on the other design (white bases/unvented domes.)2) the dial on the top of the dome to open or close the vents protrudes slightly above the top of the dome's flat surface making it a little less level/stable if you try stacking them; I'd make the dial's "handles" 2mm shorter.3) when assembled with the insert inside the bottom section, there is a gap of 3/16ths to 1/4" between the 2 pieces which is much too large a gap; because the base has ribs that allow water to accumulate, which can be used to bottom water the cells, you must add a lot of water or solution to reach the drain hole in the bottom of the cells. It also reduces the volume in each cell slightly.These are all preliminary findings and cannot judge the visibility of the roots which is the main advantage of this system, HOWEVER, the only way I was able to notice the gap below the cells was because of the clear base, so it's a plus so far. Also, the dibbler tool has a great scoop on the other end which fits the cell size nicely on the 12-cell units.Oh, by the way, most similar kits have 10 to 12 sets for $20-$25; this one has EIGHTEEN for under $20! This changed my opinion from 4 stars to 5!Hope this helps.

I'm a newbie at starting seeds and these small trays are ideal. Their small size is perfect for starting different kinds of seeds, instead of planting various seeds in one big tray. The vented top is one of the reasons I bought this type of tray. Another reviewer mentioned that the tops just sit on the rim and don't click or snap on. This is true, but if they snapped on they would be very difficult to remove without spilling your seeds in the soil all over the place. The lid sits very flush with the bottom of the tray so no moisture is escaping. You just pick up the trays under the rims.Pros:1. Thicker plastic on tops, middles, and bottoms than the types of trays that come from big box stores when you buy plants.2. The tops are vented, so no propping up.3. Even though the tops don't snap on, that's an advantage for these small trays. The top sits very flush with the bottoms.4. This particular seller sells them with more (12) and for less money than other Amazon sellers.5. The little tools that come with this kit are IDEAL, for these small trays. They are made of thick, rigid plastic. Very nice! I was expecting them to be made like plastic cutlery...definitely not made cheaply.6. Overall a great buy for new gardeners without sinking a ton of money into starting seeds.Cons: Don't see any.

I am changing my previous positive review to 1 star. After I got into the packaging I realized all my trays were melted and the tops will not fit onto them. They were packaged in a way that the ONE good tray was covering all the bad ones, so it was packaged like this intentionally. So basically out of six sets i can only use one of them. All 5 of my trays are melted like the one pictured above next to the ONE good tray.

A week later I have successfully started seeds. This is a wonderful little kit and the smaller sizes make it easier to move around to the light. I did purchase this stand on Amazon just for the seed containers. I used moisture control potting mix. So far it’s a win. These containers are doing the trick.

It feels a little flimsy, but it absolutely gets the job done. And to make it even easier I use those seed starter pellets in them. One pellet per slot. They fit perfectly, easy transfers and clean up. They store all nested together and take up just a tiny amount of space when you’re done with them. Love! And I like having 6 different containers instead of one giant tray because I like starting a bunch of different kinds of seeds and it’s super easy to label and organize that way.

I like these. Easier to use than the big trays when you are starting many different types of veggies and flowers. Love them!

I wanted to start my tomatoes inside in smaller trays than I've used previously. I liked the tops that swivel to adjust humidity within the trays, so that was my motivation for purchasing besides the good reviews. My tomatoes are thriving. I've had to leave the tops off as they are too tall, but they are still doing great. The trays served me well along with my grow light.
