I had stopped using electric can openers years ago and just did the handheld ones and the handheld ones never lasted very long and I am 63 and I do have a torn rotator cuff in my right shoulder so it’s getting harder and harder for me to use the handheld ones so I ordered this one and this electric can opener now I will tell you it’s loud as heck but it’s been so long since I’ve had one I think they were all loud but it works like a dream plus just got a knife sharpener and a bottle opener I think this is one of the best can openers with the best value and I highly recommend it

This can opener is amazingly easy to use. Makes opening cans easy, I have arthritis, usually it’s super hard to use can openers but this one I can use easily. I bought this to replace a tall West Bend can opener that was starting to get a bit finicky with can placement. The Pohl Schmitt was equally finicky right off the bat, which didn't bode well.Once I found the spot to get the blade to pierce the can, it stalled immediately. I kept trying and eventually got halfway around the can after numerous stalls, but couldn't go any further. This was a regular 15 oz can of beans, no pop top or anything. I switched back to the West Bend opener and it breezed through the other half.Looking at the lid, the first half (Pohl Schmitt) had really rough serrated edges like you'd get from a cheap hand-held can opener. The second half (West Bend) was a very smooth cut.Also, the Pohl Schmitt has a nice wide base on it, but its construction (i.e., perceived build quality) is quite light compared to the West End. I suppose the poor functionality is a safety feature, because it'll never break down from lightweight construction if it can't work in the first place!This product is completely devoid of positives. I presumably got a lemon, but even if it functioned, the plastic build wouldn't inspire much confidence.EDIT: I added a photo of the lid. The top half, as oriented, is the awful cut of the Pohl Schmitt, ending off where it refused to cut any further. The bottom half is the smooth cut of the old West Bend.

Cheap but effective!

We had been using the same old electric can opener for ages when it simply gave up the ghost. Not wanting the inconvenience of manually opening cans of tomatoes and dog food, I immediately went to Amazon for a replacement. Faced with a shocking number of alternatives, I eventually went with the Pohl Schmitt model for its sleek look and very reasonable price. The fact that it included a knife sharpener and a bottle opener was also a plus, even if it is unlikely that we'll ever use either. We've had the can opener for over a month and a half now, and it does exactly what it's supposed to do: open cans, without too much bother. If I were asked whether I would recommend this model, I guess I'd say, "Sure, why not?"

This is the third can opener of this type that I've tried and it's the first one that I found that works well. The other can openers were not able to get more than an inch before the motor stopped. This one seems to have the power to get all the way around and open the can completely. While others find that the can opener is loud I do not, it seems to be on par for the style of can opener. The only thing that I would say that I don't like is some can seem to slip off the mechanism for turning. Some cans do require a little finagling to get open, but for the most part I don't have that problem.

I had to revise my prior review due to the cutting wheel dulls after a short time. I took mine apart and sharpened it using a cutting disc on my dremel tool which is not easy and the average Shmo wouldn’t be able to. The mfr should be informed. Maybe include extra cutting wheel?It cuts the side edge of the lid. The little bead around the lid and it cuts it right dead center on the side of that bead. It makes the lid reusable which is fantastic for most can foods.*also a cool tip is to save the cans for secret stash like paper money or what ever because you cannot tell the can has already been opened.This is one of the best deals on here!Just remember to let the can circulate around a couple turns after you hear the cutter tool penetrate the lid edge. *This makes sure of a clean cut and removal from the opener once you lift the handle.

Being disabled I have some issues opening cans. I had an old school electric can opener but when it broke I bought this one. SOO happy I did. Easy to use. Don't have to push down hard. It holds the can, keeps the lid up n separate. Not having to force anything is important to my fingers. Only way I could give it a better rating is if cooked my food lol. Looks good and has a knife sharpener. If you have problems with your fingers or hand strength this is a must have!

Product was easy to use, and easy to clean. Product is sturdy, and was able to open cans of various sizes. I would highly recommend.

Returned because wrong voltage for Asia

Great product but it was shipped to Australia with just the standard US power chord. We had to find an adapter to fit and it takes up a lot of space in the power socket. Would prefer it had an Aus standard plug shipped with it.
