Valentine's Day

Charming overall film, great cast
I saw this on a list of "worst ensemble cast movies" and remembered watching it in the past, but didn't recall it being a "bad" movie, so decided to re-watch it in anticipation of V-day. Loved it all over again! It's a feel good, charming movie with an incredible ensemble cast of actors that were each perfect for their respective roles. Many converging storylines, but it's cute and doesn't feel forced, and they incorporate some nice little twists and turns as well. I love the soundtrack, too! Enjoy this (mostly) light-hearted comedy in anticipation of V-day, or anytime! <3

Cute
This is a cute movie... but these movies are all the same. You know, multiple plots happening at once, and somehow all connecting to each other... six degrees of separation or something like that. There are a lot of big name stars in it, and as I've said these holiday theme multi plot movies all are generally the same. There's an Army captain waiting to get home to her son, who's sitting next to a guy guy on the plane; there's a doctor who's cheating on his wife with a teacher; and teenagers with their young loves... etc., etc., etc.

2 hours of people introducing themselves
I was a wee bit plastered up when i watched this and boy howdy was that the ONLY way i was able to make it through this film. I swear to god it would have been unbearable to witness this sober, as it was genuinely the most 'non movie' movie ive ever seen. I feel like the script pitch for this film was essentially a bunch of managers for actors and actresses teaming up to create a two hour talent promo to remind audiences that the cast exists. Hey remember ashton kutcher? hey remember taylor swift (tho tbh who doesnt)? hey remember julia roberts? hey remember jessica biel? etc. The real plot of this film was to pack it full of as many people as physically and budgetarily possible to make people say "well theyve got a great cast, surely it must be a good movie right?" not the case. I watched this to appease my girlfriend and i hope the brownie points i earned from putting myself through this were worth it.

Fun movie, love Gary Marshall
I love this movie. I first saw it in theaters the day it came out back in 2010. I love all of Gary Marshall’s films (fell in love with Princess Diaries back in 2001). I make my husband watch this with me every Valentine’s Day (he sighs and rolls his eyes but in the end he always loves it just as much as me ha!). We also watch New Years Eve every year too. Fun movies.

Nice way to spend Valentine's Day
Not an Academy Award winner, but a nice light movie about relationships and Valentine's Day. It won't make you cry or break out into spontaneous laughter, but it will leave you feeling good about being in a relationship.

Many paths all linked somehow, Happy Valentine’s Day
Patrick Dempsey is so cute, and makes a more convincing bad guy than in Transformers. Ashton Kutcher is outright adorable and Eric Dane handsome as always. Athletes deserve love just like the rest of us. Taylor Lautner’s character could have had more depth.

She wouldn’t recommend it
My wife got this for free. She did not approve. Kind of boring she said. Had a lot of big names but was kind of let down. Maybe you will like it but rent it first.

Better than I expected
I noticed that the other reviews of this are all over the board. An equal number of 1 star and 5 star reviews as I write this. I think that the disappointment some felt is probably more over anticipation, than what they actually saw. There is an all star cast here, meaning no star really gets an abundance of screen time. Thus, a Shirley McClain, Julia Roberts, Jessica Biel, Queen Latifah, or whichever other, fan might be a bit let down thinking they will be watching a film with one of their favorites in it. If you are looking for depth in characters, this film is probably not for you, either, with all of the plots and subplots going on at the same time, you don't get much character development. What you do get is a lot of comedy, some of it very good. Also, I think this film might represent a bit of therapy for anyone who has ever spent Valentine's Day alone, ever been cheated on, ever found that the person they thought was right for them really wasn't, or found that the person they had never guessed would be right for them, was. There are happy couples in this, and those not so happy. There are a couple of bits which border on the ridiculous, but keep in mind it is not intended to be a serious film. If you want a more serious romance, watch Mike Nichols or David Lean. If you want something light and fun, to laugh at tonight but not neccessarily remember for the rest of your life, this is a good one.

2 Stars for the blu-ray, 5 for the film
There is probably no need to go in to detail about the film, chances are you've seen it or you want to see it. My verdict is contrary to what a lot of others think - I loved it! Yes it is compared to 'Love Actually' but so what - this has a bigger cast, more storylines and its set on (duh) Valentines Day. So I wish people would stop compaining about it.As for the blu-ray itself, I loved the pink-style box but the 'digital' copy is a complete rip-off. Firstly it is not 'included' as stated - you have a seperate disc which you must put in to your computer to download it from the net. Thats fine but I only purchased mine to find out that it has an EXPIRATION date (thats right, even though you technically own it) and mine was a month after buying it, but as I wasnt warned I lost my copy. This means I have an extra disc which is completely useless.Overall, i'd say buy it but make sure you look at the expiration date and download your copy quickly! 3 Star compromise.

a lot going on
Valentines Day is from director Garry Marshall of Pretty Woman fame to name but one off a HUGE list of hit films, its an interwoven romantic dramedy is the best way to describe it. At times it feels like there are too many stories going on and some are being left behind but it all comes together nicely, I especially like the way different characters from different storyline interact or know each other. At the centre of this story are Jennifer Garner and Ashton Kutcher best friends on Valentines Day and their resective love lives and radiating around them other peoples. Loved the very end and nice in-jokes. This is a dvd with just the film and a blu-ray with extras, loads of cut scenes mostly of Jamie Foxxs character, outtakes, a couple of short features on the stars and director. There are loads of celebs in this, good ones too and that is at the same time its strength and weakness. Personally I enjoyed it, a nice way to spend the evening, possibly a chick flick though!

Harmless romcom
An american attempt to match Love Actually without appreciating the magical combinations that make a masterpiece. Harmless entertainment for a quiet night in...
