Colorado Snow Climbs: A Guide for All Seasons Paperback – November 28, 2007

All guides should be put together this well! The author put this guide together by season which is an excellent idea when you are chasing elusive snow climbs. The locater map and chart of climbs by season is easy to use. Most of the photos, route descriptions, trailhead descriptions, and maps are very helpful in showing the climb of choice. Many of the climbs will be new to most Colorado snow climbers, but he also lists other climbs that are listed in other guides. He does a great job describing the routes on the climbs that are well known too. The guide lists routes that are around the RMNP, Summit County (Breckenridge), Front Range, and Eagle County (Vail) areas mostly, and only has a few in the southern, western, and southwestern parts of the state. This is an excellent guide for snow climbs in Colorado!

This is a very disappointing guide book and I would not recommend it to anyone. Cooper primarily includes climbs from a few areas near he happens to live close to rather than showing us the best Colorado has to offer. His descriptions and routes are vague at best and sometimes not accurate. His rating system for difficulty and grade is even more vague with only general description. The majority of the "climbs" in his book are literally short day hikes and he includes only some intermediate or advanced routes. The only good thing about this book was it included mountains other than 14ers.Gerry Roach's Coloardo's Forteeners has far better descriptions of routes and more accurate ratings that Cooper's book. However, Roach doesn't include any info on winter climbing so keep this in mind.

The CMC books I've purchased in the past have been well-produced, and this book is no exception. Beautiful photos and great hike descriptions!
