A little tricky to get up and running but worked great for sdi capture into laptop
I needed this for capturing a love event. I was supplied a live feed from the master control board via SDI which I ran through this device and into my machine pro. I had a bit of trouble getting it up and running at first. This is not plug and play. You will want to get this up and running before you need to use it to make sure it works properly. The instructions from BM are not great and I don't think they've been updated. They're tricky to find on their website and I had better luck googling or looking on YouTube. Once I got it going, it was smooth sailing. It worked well for my needs and I was thankful it was relatively inexpensive.

Works, but not sure if the cable it comes with is Thunderbolt
Great product at a great price. The cable that it comes with does not have the little lightning bolt symbol to indicate a TB cable. It would not work for me initially, then after buying an apple thunderbolt cable ( $40 BLEH) it works perfectly. No fault to Blackmagic, but make sure you're using a TB cable

Great bundle! You'll need the thunderbolt cable.
I didn't know this before buying the UltraStudio Recorder 3G, but you need a legit Thunderbolt cable for this to work properly. Now it makes a lot of sense that the cable is included in this bundle. Kudos to the seller! As for the UltraStudio Recorder 3G, I used it to capture analog tapes, which you might think is an overkill for such format, but it was the only way to get lossless video at a reasonable price. It worked out great and is definitely worth it compared to cheap capture cards.

Dissapointed with card.
Item did not work as advertised. Tried many was for the PC to recognize it but none worked. Even downloaded blackmagic app and it doesn't recognize the capture card.

Blackmagic is a great capture device
I was advised to use this caputure card for the sdi ouput of my new panasonic x2 camera and it works great and you have to make sure you upload the software/driver to be able to use it and for it to show up in the camera section of the live streaming software that you use and make sure your fps match up with the fps on your camera so the video doesnt freeze

Great products at a good price
I’ve bought a few of these now for coworkers. They work great. The only issue that I have had is mostly operator error. The little usb connector can become loose if you jar it around while the connector is plugged in. The solder joints hold up, so you can’t blame the product. You just have to take care of your stuff.

Brace yourself for frustration ...
I downloaded the latest Desktop Video Setup software from the Blackmagicdesigns website and plugged it in and it says that I don't have a capture device connected. I used the cable that was included with my purchase. I have a very fast and recent MacBook Pro. I'll spend some more time troubleshooting, but as others have said, it looks like this isn't going to be easy, and also as others have said ... the instructions are not adequate to the task. I'll update this review if I get it to work, otherwise it's getting returned.[update - increased my rating from 1 star to 3 stars]So I went back and uninstalled the software and drivers using the uninstall tool that comes as part of the Blackmagic Desktop Video software package. Then I reinstalled it and discovered that when the option pops up to open "system settings" that after you slide the switch to the right, another permission window pops up covering the first window, but you have to click "done" on the window that just got covered up before you click "open settings" on the next window that pops up. There are a series of about 3 or 4 of these pop up windows that you have to systematically move aside and click "done" on the previous window before you select the option to open the settings and then slide the switch on the newest pop up window. If you get through all of that, then this device works great. But there is no way in the world that I can give this device 5 stars when the installation is so problematic and there is no instruction for how to navigate it included with the device and you actually have to watch YouTube videos from 3rd party technicians in order to figure it out. Even then, the videos were outdated and only put me on the right track to figure this out for myself. I stand by my initial assessment - brace yourself for frustration. Once it works, it works great, but getting there ... YIKES!
