Why won't these work on a 2022 SX tacoma without a cargo light?

It worked on my 2021 and I don’t think they changed anything. The plug ins are behind the tail lights. Easy install and I would recommend them.

Don’t need a switch it turns on with the oem switch

Will this kit work if the truck does not have a cargo light?

Remove a tail light (either one) and there will be a connector for the lights to plug in. It will have a cap on it.

What turns the lights on?

If you have the setting in your Truck to turn on the dome lights when ever you open the doors or unlock the truck the bed lights turn on as well when the dome lights go off bed lights go off. If you keep your interior lights on the bed lights stay on.
