How long should it take for the color change to happen?  The crystals poured out white and yellow and didn't seem to change color where the urine is.

As a vet tech student that recently studied urinalysis, I can tell you that with the test strips we use, the pH assessment is ONLY accurate when color change is  assessed straight after 60 seconds has past. Urine changes it’s pH the longer it sits out—it becomes less acidic. I would not trust this product. You are better off purchasing a hydrophobic cat litter, collecting the sample in an uncontaminated cup, and refrigerating it until you can take it to your vet hospital for one of the team to dip a full panel dipstick in it. I’m sure it wouldn’t cost very much at all! Also, don’t forget—it is better to make the appointment first, THEN place the hydrophobic litter in a clean box and as soon as your cat urinates, pipette it into an uncontaminated container and take it to the vets, immediately. If you have to take a refrigerated sample in, they will have to wait for the urine to return to room temperature before they can test it.

It says this can be used with all litter types. However, I use a wood pellet litter. Can they be used together and still have results?

I don't believe so. My cats wouldn't use the litter boxes with this product in them.

Question 3

After it is used only twice can i put it away in an airtight bag and use it again at a later date?

Yes, you can. I just folded the top over & clipped it closed and it still works well over a year later.

Question 4

With many negative reviews, I wonder if a coated fiber of some sort (shredded paper?) thats actually mixed into litter might work better. Thoughts?

Coated with what? How do you know what you use as a coating will be PET SAFE? There are all kinds of dangerous chemicals in so many items. Animals (especially cats) wash their feet completely after using the litter pan. I would not RISK doing such a thing!
