Replacement Key
We bought this safe 2 years ago. We searched hard to find the right one for us. It needed to be slim, that could be hidden discretely in our closet, but also easily accessible (we have two young kids). It’s perfectly hidden in plain sight. Once opened with thumbprint, my hand is in position to grab the gun quickly. When the batteries eventually died, I located the key slot, and realized then that we had accidentally thrown the key away. Luckily, the key is easily replaced by the company (there’s a tiny code just below the key slot). So grateful that our gun isn’t locked inside forever!

Buy this and don't waste your money on more expensive ones
First off: Please don't expect any quick access safe to be anything more than a deterrent. They are all easy to break into with basic tools and a bit of force. The point of something like this is to keep firearms out of reach of young children and to be in compliance with safe storage laws. For much more secure storage that takes longer to break into and specialized tools, you need a thick steel fire-rated safe bolted to the floor or studs and an alarm system to get the police to your house before someone can get the safe open.Ok, that said, this is perfect for quickly and conveniently storing your firearm next to your desk or bed. It's easy to install. My only complaint is that the fingerprint reader is finicky. Since it stores several fingerprints, I just took my thumbprint from multiple angles, and that improved the reliability of the thumb reader.

Great safe, poor quality control
This might be my first Amazon review. Now I’m aware that this may not happen to everyone and this may void any warranty. That’s fine with me. So I received the safe and immediately I could hear loose parts moving around in it. I opened the safe with the key and took the drawer out and I found a very tiny screw rolling around in the case. Okay.... weird.. I could still hear something large moving around where the motor for the latch is. Normally I would’ve sent it back because it’s clearly broken, but I don’t have the time for that. I removed the 4 screws that held all the mechanics at the top of the safe and pulled it out. As soon as I did, the large piece that was rolling around fell out and happened to be a metal disc with a peg and the motor itself wasn’t even attached to where it SHOULD be. Additionally, the screws that are supposed to hold the motor in place, were magnetized to the motor and not attached.. So even if I put the battery in, the key pad and the print scanner wouldn’t have worked, only the manual key. I’m pretty good with putting things back together, so I looked at all the parts that were not installed and figured out their configuration. Took me about an hour or so, but I was able to reassemble the mechanics in the fashion that it should have been right out of the box. Everything works great after several tests, but that tiny tiny screw didn’t have a home.. so either I missed its location, or it’s just a random part. Either way, it’s a great safe, but perhaps the company might need to up their quality control. If anyone has this issue happen to them, I attached a photo of how it SHOULD be assembled. 4 stars only because it turned into a fix-it-yourself situation which I didn’t mind.

Loose the spring and mounting bracket. Doesn't fit my XDM 4.5
I originally bought this safe to hold my Springfield XDM Elite 4.5 OSP, but my gun won't fit in the box. So, this is now for my wife's S&W SD9VE. The first thing I noticed was that while the door opens nicely with the pistol inside it, when you go to remove the pistol from the safe and its weight is removed from the door, the spring under the door (which is means to soften the opening of the door) pushes the door upward. The result is that the door partially closes on your hand or pistol while trying to remove it from the safe. It won't cause injury or damage, but it interferes with the easy removal of the pistol. So, I decided to simply remove the spring from the bottom tab of the safe. Although the door does stop in the open position with a little bit of a thud now, it seems to work well, and the pistol is easy to remove.I also didn't want to use the mounting bracket so the installation would look a little cleaner and be slightly narrower overall. I held the side of the safe up against our solid wood bed frame, marked the location of the three holes, drilled pilot holes, and used wood screws to fasten the safe to the bed frame. The tricky part is driving the screws with very little room to spare inside the safe. I used Hex head screws with a 1/4" head and my 1/4" socket wrench. It's solid now and the safe is barely noticeable in the bed room. The fingerprint function seems to work fine. It reads my wife's prints and not mine!Overall, I recommend this product. It's pretty cool and we like it.

Solid bedside safe but be aware of misread print
The media could not be loaded. Just installed on my bed. Didn’t want to screw In on the outside of my bad and wanted it a little higher for easy access so installed a board first and secured the safe to that. It was a perfect fit nice and stable. This thing is pretty cool and works great. Every now and then it miss reads a fingerprint so I would suggest scanning in the same finger a few times to get all angles and less miss prints

GREAT customer service; sturdy and reliable product
I had this safe for approximately 18 months and am pleased with its performance throughout that time. So much so that I also bought one for my wife to store her firearm. Everything works as intended: fingerprint, code and key, all quickly and safely open the safe and give me rapid access to my firearm. Although the door opening is a little clunky sounding, it does not detract from the function of the safe, which provides security and prevents easy access to the weapon. One small problem I encountered however, I forgot to replace the battery in a timely manner, and when I went to change the battery, I found the fingerprint scanner no longer would record or read any fingerprint. The combination code and the key worked as designed, but the fingerprint had a malfunction. I contacted the manufacturer who responded almost immediately, and after two emails of communication (including one video showing how the scanner was not working) I was sent A BRAND NEW SAFE! Again, after 18 months, they sent a new safe. That’s quality customer service! I am very pleased and look forward to continuing business with Awesafe.
