Being african american, and reading Strange Fruit...I paused
When I read Strange Fruit it was in my African American literature class at Savannah State University. Professor Waters told the class that the book might make us feel emotions that we never had. The description was so life-like and as I read it..it became ME. I started to see what the strange fruit really was. I thought it was an exotic fruit like a mango or something..but you know in a way it was an exotic fruit. A human being strung like a piece of fruit dangling from a tree for no reason. My feelings were mixed while reading this, but this play told the truth. THE REAL TRUTH; no sugar-coating. It's good to have that instead of covering up history that was so violent and unjust. Thanks Kathy
