A pulse-pounding and action-packed installment
Furnace Penitentiary is a fortress. A mile beneath the surface, with walls of chiseled rock, escape is not a viable option. Not when there are cameras everywhere, mounted machine guns ready to take aim at the first sign of rebellion and black suits more than happy to deliver their brand of justice. But when your only other choices are to die or become a monster, trying to find a way out seems worth the risk.Even if it means unleashing an evil that you can't control. Even if it means enduring the Warden's wrath. And even if it means that Alfred Furnace will be coming for you.***Death Sentence is third, pulse-pounding, action-packed and bone-chilling installment in the Escape from Furnace series by Alexander Gordon Smith. With each new book, the series gets darker, the dangers to the main character Alex become exponentially greater, his chances of survival grow slimmer and the need to escape is even more critical.Readers were first introduced to the blood watch, the dogs, the black suits, the wheezers and the Warden. Then they got to meet the rats. But there are things that are even more terrifying, even more deadly. Things that even the Warden can't control. They are the berserkers. These terrifying creatures that were once human are Alfred Furnace's creations. Experiments gone wrong. Beings so devoid of humanity, filled only with rage and tremendous power, that their bloodlust knows no bounds and their loyalty is to no man. They will kill without thought, slaughter without mercy. And if they were to be let loose, there would be almost no hope for survival. In Death Sentence, author Alexander Gordon Smith takes readers to new parts of Furnace Penitentiary and introduces them to all sorts of new horrors. More is revealed about the origins of the experiments, the wheezer's nectar, the Warden and even Alfred Furnace. And as with each previous installment, the situation becomes even more dire. When things seem as if they can't possibly get worse, they do.The author has managed to increase the level of excitement with each book, surprising readers with new twists and turns, taking things right to the edge of the abyss before pulling them back, and layering in such vivid, detailed descriptions of each new monstrosity, each new horror that is visited upon the inmates, and each new obstacle that his characters must face in their attempts to regain their freedom. The pace in Death Sentence is blistering. The action is intense and riveting. The characters' plight is nerve-wracking. And the outcome is still unknown. With two more books in the series, who will be the victor is still to be determined. For fans of the series, this installment is not one to be missed. And for those who haven't yet visited Furnace Penitentiary, be prepared to be scared, to witness horrors never imagined and to discover that the longer you stay the less you'll want to leave. This series is a must, must read.

Thrilling and Phenominal
What a massive wild ride. My eyes hurt from reading the words so fast, my fingers hurt from turning the pages so quickly, my mind hurts from the unbelievable story this book threw at me. Yes, this is book 3. When I thought the horror couldn't get any worse, this was the best most awesome horror read ever. This has got to be the best horror series EVER!! Addictive, totally adrenaline pumping. Reading this book was like being on a treadmill on high speed with the inability of never being able to stop. The story will flood into you like a cold rush. Wow, Mr Alexander Gordon Smith. He could be the next King, even better than King ever could have thought to be.Yes, mighty powerful words, but read it for yourself, starting from book one and I am confident you will see it my way here.In this read without giving too much away, Alex the main character has been caught, again and as far as the prison sees it, the last time he will ever outwit this horrid hell that is Furnace. Its his turn to become a Black suit, a monstrosity. What happens to him is just gut wrenching. BUT...there will be HELL to pay...Ive gotta know what happens next, on to book 4.

"Obedience is the difference between life, death, and the other varieties of existence on offer here in Furnace." ~A.G. Smith
DEATH SENTENCE: Escape From Furnace #3, wherein Alex Sawyer learns the horrors of the Warden's "experiments" first hand and must face down pure evil in the last place he'd expect...within himself. This third installment returns to the quality of story enjoyed in the first book, LOCKDOWN that I had felt was somewhat lacking in the sequel. In fact the added heavy hitting action infused into the strong original storyline, including answers...yes, answers; pushed DEATH SENTENCE slightly ahead of the pack in my book (pardon the pun). Dare I say Escape From Furnace #3 is the standout read of the series thus far and well worth the wait... I dare. Brilliant work Smith, keep up!

OH MY GOOOOODDDDDDDD!!!! I think my head just EXPLODEEEDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved every second of itI It was fast paced, exciting, satisfying. It made me laugh and cry, no matter how cliche that sounds. The ending was so epic and so climactic that I damn near pissed myself. It probably achieved that effect of "Oh my God, it's finally happening" better than any other book, or series, more accurately, that I've read. I immediately jumped to the computer and ordered the next two books from Britain because I just couldn't wait. Yeah... we'll talk about those later... - -

Great book with interesting characters.
I bought a set of this series for my son and daughter. We all love this series!! The characters are so believable you start to feel scared for them. The creepiness is just right and very entertaining. Hard to believe this series is written for young people when I couldn't read parts of it in the dark. Love this series.
