Superb carry-on, see photos and Q&A
I fly 100K miles a year, and it was time to get a better carry-on bag than the old Samsonite I've used for 10 years. I debated between the crew versions of Travelpro and this Briggs & Riley, and finally went for this. I'm glad I did; it is extremely thoughtfully engineered, beautiful but understated, and without a doubt extremely high quality. Following are some questions and answers that might be of help to you in deciding. Can I see other photos? As of this writing, the Olive color bag has more photos than the Black version. Click on that color to see them. I've also posted some of my own. What are the real dimensions? I measured it carefully and took photos with a tape measure; check the photos I added to the customer images. Meanwhile, the dimensions are 21.9" tall, by 13.9" wide, by 9.25" deep (measuring to the front seam, with no additional depth to the front pocket). Thus, it is within the US domestic limits for height and width, but is about 1/4" deeper than the officially allowed carry on size. However, that is more conservative in size than many bags that people carry on. If I ever run into problems with it, I'll update.Does it fit in the sizer? Yes, but barely on depth. At least it fit on the United sizer that I tried. This is with nothing in the external pockets and having to compress it a bit and push. I've added two photos showing this. Width and length were no problem at all in the sizer I tested. What's up with the garment bag? Check the photos (including the other color options) closely. The key things are this: if the bag is empty, you can unzip the main compartment, attach a hook to the side of the bag, and hang it up on a door to present the garment bag part in full length. Wire hangers (not included) will go into a locking mechanism. Then you close mesh arms over the clothes to hold them in place, attach another elastic strap if they're long, and then fold it up. The middle part of the folding apparatus is even padded to reduce wrinkling. Overall this works about as well as I can imagine any carry on working. It takes more space than folding of course, but yields the fewest wrinkles possible. For short trips in particular, it's nice to have 2-4 days worth of clothes on hangers and ready to go.Does it have the CX expansion option? No. I debated between this bag and the expandable version ( Briggs & Riley Luggage Baseline Domestic Carry-On Expandable Upright Suitcase ). The garment bag feature on this model is better, but expansion on the other version is also a nice feature. What finally sold me on this one was that most of the garment bag parts (the folder and the shoulder pockets) are removable. Thus, when I don't need or want the garment folding apparatus, I don't have to take it. At the same time, it is a superior garment option when needed. Are there other cool features? Several. The large front pocket is perfectly sized and designed to hold a laptop easily accessible for security lines. The name tag and rear pockets are very clever and useful. There is a J-hook-type strap that comes with it and attaches very securely to the top. There is a flap on the bottom that serves as a makeshift handle when it is loaded into an overhead bin head first. The zippers are really remarkable in quality. It came with a free TSA lock for the zippers (although only one, not three for the three different zipper sets). The garment bag and main bag unzip separately, which keeps things orderly and also makes it extremely easy to get to a change of clothes quickly. The main compartment has shoe bag slots. The various expanding pockets have side linings to help hold everything in (and reduce zipper issues). Overall, it's clear that the people who designed it took great pains to make it maximally functional. How do the repairs work? B&R says "If your Briggs & Riley bag is ever broken or damaged, even if it was caused by an airline, we will repair it free of charge. Simple as that!" The options are to take it to a local authorized repair center, to mail it back to B&R, or -- and this is the part I love -- if it's something simple like the wheels or handle, to order a self-repair kit.Is it worth the money vs. other options? That's a personal decision, of course. Travelpro bags are the common bag of choice for flight crews (although not necessarily the consumer versions). But in reading flyer forums, it seemed pretty clear that their quality and consistency are erratic. My thought process was something like this: "Would I rather have 3 other bags that are pretty good than this one? Maybe. Do I want to mess with that? No. Does this one have superior features and quality? Yes. Will I worry that another bag will break at just the wrong moment when I'm overseas? Yes. Can I order it from Amazon and return if it has something wrong? Yes." Sold. My only reservation is that I'd really prefer to give up the 1/4" depth to ensure absolute compliance with carry-on limits.I hope that helps. I love this bag, and am looking for an excuse to get more Briggs & Riley! Briggs & Riley Luggage Baseline Domestic Carry-On Expandable Upright Suitcase

Disappointing. Suitcase carry-on a much better buy.
As a serious business traveler I love B&R and will only buy their luggage. Their international carry-on spinner is my go-to bag: great design, indestructible. So when I needed a garment bg I looked here first: this was a mistake. While the build is good, the design is awful: 1) being used to a four wheeler, two wheels is a big step back. Very poor maneuverability. 2) the suitcase is tilted forward while standing. So when you add a backpack or briefcase to the handle it falls over. Again and again. 3) absolutely no improvement to wrinkles in a suit compared to folding in a suitcase. 4) does not expand accordion style unlike the suitcase. And the design leaves very little room for anything beyond a pair of shoes in the second compartment. In short disappointed by the garment bag in general, and this design specifically. Not worth it.
