Q: How do you program it to a dvd player for a 2012 toyota highlander?

Ah I forgot exactly but the instructions come with the product. As far as I remember the buttons in the middle panel with light gray background worked right away in my Sienna 2013 without any extra configuration.

Q: Will this remote work with an advent adv10a?

No, not at all. It is for the factory Toyota entertainment system.
