Ultimatum

Ultimatium is a very strange comic as it effictivly splits the ultimate universe into two halfs pre ultimatium and post ultimatium. I found the comics story to be medicore at best,basicly its about magneto screwing the world up aka floods in new york,eastern europe freezeing , volcanos erupting , makeing multiple man multiply him self into a army of sucide bombers and all because his two kids from the previous story died. now its a medicore story but it is just slightly better than ultimte's 3 joep loeb has tried to correct his mistakes but has made many more.Now what most fans hate about this book is all the deaths and for once i agree. Some deaths are just pointless in fact you have read the spiderman tie in just to find out who else dies. people are killied of for no reason in acts of cannibilism and worse it is just a gore fest of the death front. in fact their is really only Two meaningful deaths in this entire damn comic.Im giving it three stars for a few reasons the Art like ultimate's 3 is gorgeous and regardless of plot it should be upheld in that light. The story on the other hand is just bland and terrible and enough plot holes to fit a train through so yes read it if you want to under stand the post Ultimatium ultimate universe but dont expect a good story.

After hearing how this comic had ruined the ultimate universe as the worst story arc ever, i had to read it myself to find out why and now i have and i just have to say: WTF?!!! This really is the worst of the worst and the ultimate universe is never gonna be the same. Jeph Loeb, the guy who wrote this just killed off most of the favourable ultimate characters in a meaningless and lazy way, it was so out of character. He was like a mean kid with a magnifying glass picking which ants to fry for fun. This story left so many questions left unanswered and left holes that will not be filled. It is despicable 100%

After reading Ultimates 3 literally anything would have been an improvement and this definately is.That said, it falls way short of the standard set by Millar's Ultimates books.This story brings together the main Ultimates lines (Ultimates, Spider-Man, X-Men and Fantastic Four) and rings wholesale changes for the Ultimate universe, with characters being killed off left, right and centre. This feels a little unnecessary but is handled as well as it could have been considering the number of characters who bite the dust.The artwork is great and fits nicely into the Ultimate line (unlike Ultimates 3).Not great by any means but sets up the changeover to Ultimate Comics.

Got this brand new back two years ago for 32 pound, I thaught that was slightly pricey but dam! Am I glad I got it now! Yes the righting is not the best and some of it is a little out there but I really respect Jeph Loeb for writing something more graphic and violent than what we normally get to see. The artwork is stunning and it felt like a blockbuster in my opinion.

Absolutely love this book,so much so,when i got to the end,...i felt like re-reading it again!The artwork(especially by Joe Madureira with book 1)is stunning,...& the 2nd book isn't half bad either.A worthy purchase.

Surprisingly, because I'm not a big fan of Jeph Loeb at all, and also because this book tends to be universally hated by most Marvel fans, I actually really enjoyed reading it and found it a very brave book.I have a small collection of graphic novels from the Ultimate universe, round about 20 or so (mainly by Millar, Bendis and Ellis), but haven't followed any series from the start and, therefore, don't have the kind of deep love for these characters that other fans may have, so I know that I'm far less likely to be affected by the deaths of such beloved heroes.However, surely one of the points of creating the Ultimate universe was to allow Marvel to tell a different kind of story; one that isn't possible to do in the standard (616) Marvel universe, so the fact that many heroes die in this book is, to me, quite a refreshing and more believable take on things. The devastation that Magneto creates (including the flooding of New York and, therefore, the drowning of millions) seems to be on a par with the sort of apocalyptic stuff normally to be found in the early (and rather excellent)  Authority  books. Also, the smidgeon of gore we find here seems very Garth Ennis in nature, and as he's one of my all-time favourite writers, I found that appealing (and it reminded me a little of his take on  Thor , which has Thor and Doctor Strange dealing with the hyper-violence perpetuated by a bunch of undead vikings, a story also set in New York).So, Marvel purists may hate this book but I found it, on the whole, rather fun.
