Boom Shakatak!
An attractively packaged eco-friendly 2 CD set of the excellent Shakatak albums, View from the City (1998) and Under Your Spell (2001). While predominantly jazz/funk/fusion, they have updated their productions in line with the music trends of the time.View from the City begins with Nova Bossa, a fresh, breezy Latin number with do-do-dos, and they combine influnces of soul, drum & bass, r&b, theink Incognito and Brand New Heavies except better. Move A Little Closer croons the excellent Jill Saward over a groovy shuffle beat. How could we resist!Under Your Spell is the stronger of the two. Jill sounding better than ever as she beckons "come on into my world" on Falling. There are light vocal effects, dance music and r&b, and the brilliant flute solo on 'Til Sunrise really sparkles. The flautist is not credited in the sleeve notes, tut tut, they deserve a mention. Silver falls is a beautiful Bill Sharpe piano composition. With the magical Tell Me Tonight they clearly saved the best for last.Crackin' stuff!
