Is this drill flute long enough to create a sufficient pilot holes?** A: Hmmm.... well, I would think if you anchored the shaft with the full 2 3/4 inch cutting screw exposed and sink it into the stud down to the chuck you might have a good pilot hole. The only thing that bothers me is that you said these are BOLTS not screws... so I don't know how much bite they will have to go that last 1/4 inch. so you may have to leave a bit of the shaft exposed to get the full 3" you will need. I hope that helps... hard to answer when I can't see what you are what you are working with. So you will likely have to go shopping for replacements for broken bits in these sizes.I recommend the reasonably priced Dewalt DWA1205 and DWA1207 for the first two sizes and the Bosch CO2136 for the 9/64 inch.
