Reliable Performance with Minor Clarifications
I've been using the Cisco CBS110-24PP for a while now, and overall, I'm very happy with its performance. As an unmanaged switch, it delivers exactly what I expect: quiet (no fan), reliable, and rack-mountable. It meets most of my needs quite well. One thing to note is the description regarding the 2x1G SFP shared ports. Initially, I interpreted this to mean that the bandwidth on these ports was shared. However, what it actually means is that using each SFP port results in the loss of an Ethernet port (specifically ports 23 and 24). If something is plugged into one of the Ethernet ports when the SFP is connected, the Ethernet side gets disconnected. For those planning to utilize both SFP ports, you'll have 22 Ethernet ports available. Additionally, since the SFP ports are 1G, when daisy chaining the switches together, there isn't much benefit in using a 1G DAC SFP over just using a 1ft Ethernet jumper. A minor nitpick is about the marketing around the PoE capabilities. The switch is advertised as having "partial PoE," and while this isn't misleading, it would be clearer and more accurate to state in the product headline that it has "12 PoE ports." The product description does state this clearly, but you have to dig to find it. The part number (CBS110-24PP) might imply that all ports are PoE, which they are not. Despite these minor points, it's been a solid addition to my network setup. It performs well and offers the reliability I expect from a Cisco product.
