I just put in a rain garden and this functions well as an asthetic downspout alternative. If there are wind gusts the water can blow outside the chain but that is not a big deal. I wonder about winter ice build up here in Wisconsin but that can be a problem with downspouts as well. I had my handyman install the gutter adapter and it did not take him long at all. It was a lot easier then installing an actual downspout. I bought and attached the bowl at the bottom, and puts rocks in it to hold it on place. I may get a bigger flat-ish rock to set it on. One could also put it on a small pedestal and it could function as a birdbath.

Works great. Easy to install with the adapter (sold separately). Looks really cool. I tied it in to my rain barrel with a bit of wire so it doesn't blow around.
