Just Right Children's Book
Jasmine Green Rescues: A Collie Called Sky is the second book by Helen Peters that I have read. As a retired educator, I found several important positives for this series. The focus is on animals and their care which is of interest to children. Animal books were always popular with my students. Jasmine is a likable character that children can relate too. The setting is also one of interest with vivid descriptions making it easy to visualize. While the series is not a mystery Jasmine has a problem to be solved in each book. In this case it is a tiny sickly puppy who in need of help. The lessons on the proper care of puppies can be learned through Sky’s story. It is taught in a heartwarming way through Jasmine’s interaction with Sky along with her family.Second graders to third graders can read this story independently with younger children enjoying it being read to them. It is a transitional chapter book, not too difficult but not a quick reading book either. Older children may enjoy the story too but I think the main interest would be to those around eight years old or so. Older elementary age children may not find it quite as interest holding. It is known that good readers find a series that they enjoy and then read them all. This would be a wonderful one for a young reader to get hook on reading. The publisher through Net Galley provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

Very good series for new readers
This is the third book in my newest recommend-to-most-everybody series for young middle grade readers. (It will depend on the maturity of your readers, but I'd say the sweet spot is around 6-9.)After having rescued a piglet and duckling in the previous two books, Jasmine takes on the rescue and training of an abandoned sheepdog in this newest addition. Even as an adult, I'm fascinated by the details of animal care--and my young readers just lap it up. Another big plus in my book is the loving, but realistic family life portrayed. Depending on your kid, you might want to be aware that Jasmine is a bit sassy at times and just about once a book makes a huge mistake as a result of disobedience that she believes is for the greater good. There are always consequences and discussions--but it's worth following up with a discussion or two of your own.
