A Brush with Birds: Paintings and Stories from the Wild

As the Australian author says, this is not a bird book, but a book about birds. This may be semantics, but his outstanding gouache paintings proliferate in this large-size book. I especially like the beautiful full-page art of the Rose-crowned Fruit-dove. Also outstanding are the several paintings of water, whether ocean waves or lake ripples. This is a special talent which complements the water birds so well such as another full-page illustration of the Wilson's Storm-petrels. Australia's fairy wrens are given much coverage, important so as to see these tiny birds in close view in varied habitats. Those of us who are not familiar with Australia's geography can also learn about Simpson Desert, the Coorong, and the currawongs in the Connewarran, among other places. This is a really outstanding book covering many species of birds and the art which glorifies them. As the author concludes, he is more interested in depicting character and light.

Have only recently began to read this. My interest in the author is based rather more on the fact that he is an environmentalist who has successfully renewed his Australian farm based on holistic principles.But the text of the book is as interesting as the illustrations.

Die Zeichnungen sind ein absolutes Highlight. Ich frage mich immer, wie es Menschen schaffen derart zu zeichnen/malen. Ein großartiges Talent. Das Buch ist im Großformat, was das Schmöckern und vertiefen in die Zeichnungen noch mehr zu einem Erlebnis macht.Für jeden Naturliebhaber und Vogelfreund nur ans Herz zu legen.

Arrived in the timeframe specified, in perfect condition. If you're tossing up getting this book, highly recommend go for it. It's absolutely beautiful (I use as a reference book as the illustrations are stunning).
