How fine is it?

Not powder fine but fine enough to use in a typical pepper shaker. The course ground can not be used in a typical shaker as it’s too course to fit through the holes.

Is this gluten free?

McCormick Pure Ground Black Pepper does not contain gluten. Gluten and gluten products, when present, will always be declared on the product label by the common name of the gluten source such as “barley”, “wheat”, “rye”, “oats” or “triticale”. If no ingredient statement appears on the product label, then the product is as it appears in the product name (e.g. black pepper). It is important that you read the ingredient statement on your package at the time of purchase to ensure accurate, up to date information, as product formulas may change. If any product has a Gluten-Free claim, the product and the manufacturing line has been validated Gluten-Free. McCormick takes the safety and quality of our products very seriously and you can be certain that we exercise the utmost care in the production and packaging of our products. Does the lid of the 1 lb container have a spout to pore into shaker?

This particular product does not have a spout to pore into a shaker - the lid has two openings: one with small holes to use as a shaker, and the other with a large opening for pouring. We also sell McCormick Culinary Handy Fill Shaker Grind Black Pepper, 2 lbs on Amazon that has a spout for refilling shakers.
