This is Kubrick's classic film to
This film was originally released and found controversy from day one. It is in places violent, disturbing and hard to follow. But it is Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece in direction and photography. It was years before it was released as a vhs, then DVD and many believed it never would be. But its still a classic and worth the effort of watching it. It shows how some thought the future might turn out to be. But it is fiction and holds up a mirror to those who thought so I enjoyed it at the cinema, then and now it remains a good film. Whichever way you look at it. Highly recommend.

A Clockwork Orange-Beatings, bowlers and Beethoven
This film is definitely not for everyone. The dialogue, the plot and the acting meld with the music of Beethoven and the grim future-retro brutalism of Thamesmead to create a majestic classic. The character of Alex, played by Malcolm McDowell is one of the greatest in cinema history. The beginning makes you despise him but as the film progresses we start to almost pity the maniac as he undergoes treatment to alter his behaviour. McDowell and Kubrick push the antihero role a notch higher than what we expect.A movie far so futuristic and beyond normal, it requires a great amount of tolerance and openmindedness to understand the crux of the movie. Liking Beethoven helps too.DISC & EXTRAS————————-The picture quality won’t win any A/V awards but is perfectly acceptable for a film of its age. The soundtrack is a new 5.1 surround mix which especially brings the music to the fore brilliantly. The real extras treat on this disc is the commentary with Malcom McDowell & Nick Redman, which is informative and excellent with Malcom eloquently sharing anecdotes from the filmmaking.Channel Four doc “Still Tickin’ : The Return of Clockwork Orange” which dives into the production of the film and specifically into Kubrick's own views on humanity. The rest of the featurettes are all very competent with some never-seen-before features including “Great Bolshy Yarblockos! Making A Clockwork Orange”, Turning Like Clockwork and Malcom McDowell Looks Back” and the original theatrical trailer. This particular release comes with a nice A3 poster of the slipcase cover art.“A Clockwork Orange” is a challenging work but immensely rewarding and has rightly been proclaimed a cult classic, demanding your attention.Thank you for viddying my review.

Viddy well, little brother. Viddy well. (And you will).
(The Special “Poster Edition” is just a standard blue plastic blu-ray inside a cardboard sleeve by the way). Great to see the master’s greatest work in HD format. This film is so poetic, poignant, emotive and downright mesmerising that it demands multiple viewings. So it’s definitely one film worthy of purchase because it’s never on TV or streaming services, and I expect to watch it again numerous times. It’s a film that pushes every boundary imaginable and is utterly unique. Insightful, intelligent, ironic, funny, educational and intensely powerful.A masterpiece.

A Seminal Film That I Wouldn't Recommend A Gentle Heart Watch
With the benefit of forty years, one can assess whether anything is worthy of high praise or greatness.Inarguably, it made its mark, merely by being withdrawn from distribution for a significant while. One does wonder how this served to amplify the sinister over(and under)tones of the movie. What I mean by that is, well, the old 'in-and-out' is all the latest generation know about bedding, sexual preference changes following traumatic experiences is all the more common, and thuggery - well most people simply shrug their shoulders upon hearing accounts of it.This movie is quite unlike The Shining, which was a screenplay heavy rewritten by Kubrick to document his personal trials. A Clockwork Orange is a film adaptation of Anthony Burgess' work that has imprinted the original's alloyed language to tremendous effect.A film that depicted trauma, and in sharing it traumatised the audience? That's up for debate (but the affirmative camp has a strong case). A movie that contributed to Kubrick being The most revered director amongst directors...absolutely.

Brilliant quality visuals & sound!
After owning this movie for more than 20 years in the pirate form, it's amazing to see this film the way Stanley wanted it seen. Clear visuals and crisp sound makes this a must for any Kubrick fans.

Outdated? I don't think so...
This movie is much smarter than 99% of modern movies currently produced: there is super cop, no self-troubled anti-hero, no usual dilemma of should we use violence or not to solve the situation, no big computer or super smart paranoid organization which controls everything... The whole story shines by its originality, and nobody has dared to emulate the complexities of the storyline.Violence.... I don't find it super shocking by nowadays standards, I personally feel much more shocked by hearing the testimony of the gang rapes in Bosnia, the child-soldiers in some African wars, the tortures in Middle East... Kubrick manages to even keep some dark humor in those, as they are all conducted in music and with some smart language. Now raise your hands everyone who would vote yes to the Ludovico method: come'on, changing trouble criminals into docile workers, incapable of recidivism, at almost no cost or taxes? Who cares about "Subtleties over moral choices"... I will vote with my both hands!

Outer cardboard sleeve ripped!
The outer cardboard sleeve was ripped due to shoddy packaging and delivery so I won't be buying blu ray or dvds with outer cardboard sleeves from amazon again! The movie is a classic but the 1 star is for the ripped cardboard sleeve so in future no more blu rays from amazon.
