does the kit come with dye in the bottle and an extra packet?

Yes. Bottles come filled with powder AND there are additional powder packets in the kit. You can fill each bottle twice.

How permanent is this product?

That depends on how you prep. If you do it as it says, it doesn't last as long. If you go pick up some washing soda (which is soda ash) from your local store, soak the items first, and then leave them sitting for a good 24+ hours before rinsing out the dye, it's very permanent and doesn't really fade.

I'm planning to dye a bunch of pillow cases- can I wash them all together or does it have to be one at a time?

It can be all together but I recommend using a color grabbing sheet, which can be found at any grocery or target/Walmart type store. This sheet will help to absorb excess color. I have used this dye many times without issue. But, one time I had a child send in a teeshirt that was made of a syntentic material and that shirt bleed all its colors onto the other shirts. While the shirts still came out excellent they were not the colors intended. However if you are 100% certain you are using the correct fabric then you can wash them together without issue.
