Perfect as a first "proper book".
This was the first non reading scheme book my five year old read to me (he usually reads level 8-9). He needed help with a few words but much preferred this to the endless Biff, Chip and Kipper stories and was able to read it in two sittings. The illustrations really helped bring the story to life but the book still felt very grown up which he loved. The story itself had a perfect combination of humour and sentimentality to appeal to the 3-6 age range and would also be great as a first big kid book to read to a child who is ready to graduate from short stories.

Highly recommended for emergent readers
This is a cracking little series for emergent readers, either to have read to them or to read independently, depending on their reading level. It presents like a chapter books in terms of size, so feels quite grown up to a 5/6 year old, but is packed full of fantastic illustrations and doesn't actually take that long to read, so is the perfect bridge between picture books and longer chapter books. I'm just starting to read slightly longer books to my Year 1 class and this one had them in stitches. We managed it in about 3 five minute sittings. There's also a lovely moral too.

Good book for a young free reader
I tried to find a good book for my 5 year old son who is a free reader and found this book recommended in a newspaper. This book doesn’t have a lot of vocabulary and more focus on the story - perfect for a young free reader. My son really enjoyed it and read it twice in a day. Now he has finished the second book of this series and is reading the 3rd book.

A must-have for just moving on from picture books
We love this book! At first I had assumed it was a picture book, but it's more like a mini novel, but not as big as a first chapter book. It's very funny, and also has a good back message about friendship, loyalty and sharing. A must-have!I've done a brief flick through video on YouTube to see the inside more, look for Books with Bec, or go to the YouTube link in my Amazon profile.

Horrible book
I am completely baffled by the glowing reviews for this book. As the mother of a six year old boy who keeps coming home from school talking about poo and various other toilet expressions, I was very disappointed to read in this book about rabbit eating his own poo. As I was reading it, I had to try to make up other words to cover up what was going on in the story. Why make life more difficult for parents who are trying to stop their kids constantly using toilet terms? The paper back version I bought is mostly black and white and very uninspiring.
