Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing: The Comedy Classic Hardcover – Big Book, 30 May 2019

If you are a fan of the show, or just love Bob and Paul then this is the perfect book. Great humor that you will find yourself laughing out loud to so be prepared for some funny looks on your commute.

After adoring both of the BBC series’ of “Mortimer and Whitehouse gone fishing”, I couldn’t wait for my Amazon delivery of this book! I can honestly say, I hardly put it down from the second it was delivered! Sooooo gripping!The wonderful friendship between Bob and Paul just shines thru every page, and the comedy throughout is just magic!However, do note there is a HUGE chapter about halfway thru, focussing purely on “How to fish”. This breaks away totally (well almost totally) from the friendship and comedic value of the book, but is obviously necessary (and rightly so) for the many fishing enthusiasts who are no doubt reading it. Not being into fishing at all, I still found this slightly interesting reading, and I stuck with it. It didn’t put me off the book in any way, nor did it spoil it.I found the whole heart surgery detail enthralling, and found really interesting reading in the healthy recipes. In Chapter 8, they discuss why they think their TV show works. IMO it’s the same reason as to why the book works; it’s not just the fishing, nor the scenery / photos, it’s not purely the comedy, it’s the fact that it has that little bit of something for everybody. They compare their series to Great Canal Journeys and also Detectorists, and for that exact same reason, I adore both of those series too!My only negative, if any, and it’s only minor, is the quality. I think the cover deserved to be glossy, and the inside photos to be at least all in colour, and definitely glossed. Just cheapened the book in my opinion. It could have been soooo much more aesthetically pleasing with those little tweaks.Anybody deliberating over the book, thinking “well I know nothing about fishing.......have no interest in fish....I can’t read this!!!!” etc, do not hesitate! I was exactly the same but this is sooooo much more than the fishing; it’s about a wonderful genuine friendship and idyllic escapism, all put together with comedy. Superb!PS I just wish JR HARTLEY could have got a mention in Chapter 12! 😂😂😂

The book is very good but the audiobook is amazing, just the two of them chatting away at points and all the better for it.
