Dolly
One of the all time female go getters in the world. She is a true shining light andIs a force of coming from nothing to achieving her goals and still works hard. What a great American female of not letting anything stop her.

Quality hardcover book
This solid hardcover book is of better quality than I expected. It is very sturdy and made well. The book arrived wrapped in plastic to protect the book sleeve from getting damaged but the edges of the book were not perfect showing some marks.

Homespun charm!
A fantastic book that gives insight into both Dolly's life and her music. Fascinating stories and all the charm of Dolly herself!

Enjoyable and honest, but somewhat sketchy
I bought the Kindle version of this book, so I'm not able to enjoy the huge coffee-table book with fancy presentation and beautiful color photos. It is what the subtitle says: "My Life in Song Lyrics". I learned a fair amount about Dolly's upbringing and her family poverty and her very musical relatives. As the book goes on, there is progressively less and less information about the ensuing years. In effect, the entire book is a series of vignettes, many of them quite short, preceded by the lyrics of a selected song that she wrote. It's not the best way to write a memoir, especially if the reader is not familiar with the vast majority of the songs (Dolly has written hundreds, actually thousands, of them). And minus the music and singing they are a little thin. Some of the snippets are prefaced by a little paragraph of information by her co-author. The snippets themselves are by Dolly, and are in conversational "Dolly-speak" -- somewhat simplistic (like maybe a 6th-grade level of writing), charming and witty but not really great or revelatory writing. It just sounds like she is talking off-the-cuff in a talk-show interview. Not the best way to write a revealing or meaningful memoir. So, although I learned a fair amount, I didn't feel like we really got below the surface. I also feel like Dolly was protecting the feelings and images of everyone she mentioned (including herself). So I am somewhat disappointed. I may try to sample some of her albums, like her bluegrass 'Trio' with Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris. Or, I may try and read the actual memoir she wrote in 1994, which may actually be more revealing. Also, the Kindle edition of this book is very expensive. Dolly will probably spend the proceeds on charity so I don't begrudge that, but it was higher than it was worth, to me. In time the Kindle price may go down or be on sale.Lastly, I'd like to conclude that Dolly is a great lady, and if you don't already know that you're probably not interested in this book. This book does not disprove that at all, but it just didn't go deep enough for me. If you are a Dolly fan, or simply admire her, I recommend it.

Baps
Bought as a Christmas present for my mum, who'd dropped subtle hints that she wanted it. The book is a large and weighty tome, but as it arrived sealed in a polythene cover which I don't want to open, I can't tell you how good the book is!I was intending to give it a 4 star review, docking a point purely because of the price. Yes, there's a lot of book, but it's VERY expensive. I gave it the full 5 stars for 3 reasons: 1. There's a hell of a lot of book; 2. Amazon are selling it at or lower than the rrp, and didn't set the price; and 3. Dolly Parton donated a million dollars towards efforts to produce a Covid vaccine. I very much doubt she'll ever read this, but just in case, Thank you for that, ma'am! Your gesture was very much appreciated.I like and respect philanthropy enormously. It softened the blow of paying so much for the book.

Beautiful beautiful book highly recommend
I thought this was just an ordinary size book .. it isn’t it’s a large book with 175 of Dolly’s songs with insights to her writing them , going through her life’s journey , the pictures and illustrations are beautiful, if your a Dolly Parton fan it’s a must if your not it’s still a beautiful book and worth a look. I’m still working my way through it . Highly recommended.

A Collection of the talent of Dolly Parton
Beautifully illustrated and one great read. The legend that is Dolly Parton has realised this amazing book full off her most treasured songs and the stories behind them. Each chapter is beautifully presented and opens up the history of her songwriting talent. The book follows her journey through the music industry and how she became the real queen of country music. It is great to learn some of the stories behind some of my favourite Dolly Parton songs for example Mama say a prayer, Little Bird and My Blue Tears. Also this is a real rags to riches story, starting singing on her front porch too stages all over the world. It was also interesting to read about the songs she has written for other artists. As a big fan of Dolly Parton, I couldn’t wait to read this book and it was well worth the wait.Highly recommended to everyone. Especially if you are as big of a Dolly fan as me.

Great read and insight into a great song writer
I have always been a fan of Dolly Parton and wanted to get a better understanding of how/why she was able to create such memorable music. I have purchased other songwriter's books; e.g. The Beatles; I believe this type of book increases my appreciation of songwriters. My Life in Lyrics is a book that has increased my appreciation of Dolly Parton and is also a very enjoyable read.

A book filled with love from a living legend and angel
Lifelong fan of Dolly Parton and been fortunate to see her live many times and in a year that has been so hard for so many to be able to immerse myself in the world of the angel that is Dolly was an absolute joy. Filled with stunning photographs and reads as if she is talking to you and telling you the stories herself in her own way... a must for any fan of Dolly Parton and although the price might seem high amazon selling it at a cheaper rate is an extra incentive to buy
