Great for healthy lungs, hard to use otherwise. Comparison of 3 most popular spirometers
We have three spirometers. The Voldyne 5000, an Airlife and a Teleflex Triflo. The Airlife was given to us by the hospital, the other two we bought elsewhere for about $8 each to avoid the COVID markup on Amazon in March 2020.Voldyne 5000 - Pros: Good quality, thick sturdy plastic. If you're able to use a spirometer the way it's intended (slow, long breath in) this is a good one to buy, it's very precise. Cons: It's fairly large, the loop hole at the top is too small to fit the mouthpiece for storage without crushing the soft plastic tube. Eventually the tube will break. Despite the cons, this one is the easiest to use.Airlife - Pros: easy to use, lightweight. Stores easily. Basic, and simple. Cons: Difficult to keep the indicator between the arrows. Mom has COPD but also dementia, difficult for her to use properly without getting distracted by the indicator ticking around - its loud.Teleflex - Pros: very small and compact. Good quality, very sturdy. It's a different style than the others, but very easy to use. Cons: If you have trouble reaching 1000cc's on the typical spirometer, you probably wont like this one. The first ball will go straight up, but it will take considerable effort to get the second ball to even move, forget about the third ball. I have healthy lungs and prefer this one for regular breathing exercise because it's the most challenging of the three.

Good for lungs
I ordered this because I read that spirometers provide good exercise for the lungs and if they weren't using them, they should, for all COVID19 patients. I don't have COVID19, but it can't hurt to have stronger lungs. I use it about 10 times a day.

Using this to get through COVID recovery at home
I was diagnosed with COVID December 28th and have had fever, aches, congestion and lots of coughing and mucus. A couple days ago I woke up in middle of the night with my lungs wheezing and crackling about 7 days into diagnosis. I bought oximeter on amazon for peace of mind and this lung exerciser to make sure that my lungs will get clear. I am grateful that I could order this device so quickly and affordably on amazon. After I use it I get very out of breath for a little while but I do feel like it's helping clear my lungs because I will have a lot of productive coughing after using it. It is easy to use for me, I don't know if someone has more advanced lung disease if they would have issue, but it is also challenging enough that I feel like it's making my lungs stronger. I do recommend using this if you have COVID or to prevent lung issues from COVID at home.

Decent Little Guy; Comforting During Covid
I have asthma and I contracted Covid from family during a 5-person Christmas. I ordered this as soon as I tested positive and used it as much as I could every day. It's not easy b/c it's INHALE vs. EXHALE and there were times I couldn't get the ball to stay where it should for very long without coughing or wheezing, but I kept using it the whole 2 weeks I was acutely ill. We were fortunate that no one in our group had to be hospitalized. I'm not saying this thing kept me out of the hospital, but I am saying it kept me from just laying around trying to "rest" the virus away. You can do that with a cold or the flu, but that won't work with Covid. You have to make yourself eat and drink and move around. It's a battle of wills and this thing helped me win it.

Great for young wind instrument musicians
Bought this for my son to practice breathing for clarinet. He is having fun doing it because I challenged him to keep all balls up as long as he can. So he is doing the breathing exercises without me reminding him to

It failed and was returned.
Pros:- I liked the idea. My dad used the working version of this device when he was in the hospital.Cons:- It doesn’t work correctly. No matter how hard one tries, the ball barely moves.
