I have 2 of them they are outstanding. The tuner is small yet easy to see and use for the player. However, it is unnoticeable to others and functions very well. The black color makes it difficult for onlookers to see it attached to the banjo when placed on the top part of the rim near the neck heal. I use this product all the time and it works very well for me on both of my banjos. It is a good value for the money. The screen denotes the string that is to be played and is fairly easy to see. Of course, a good quality of the strings on the banjo must be used, in order for the tuner to function properly.

After reading the reviews I was apprehensive thinking it may not fit. Many say they broke it trying to install. I thought the whole thing went under the brackets for the head. I found it fit perfectly on top of one and under two. There is enough flex for this fit. My brackets are 1.5 inches apart. In the first photo notice the half-circle opening at the bottom of the strap. That goes over one bracket the other two fit under the corresponding brackets. To install slide one side of the strap completely under the front bracket, then press down on the back of the bracket, so it will slide under the third bracket, while sliding the entire piece towards that third bracket. To make this easy to see you can remove the actual tuner from the bracket just slide it forward and it will come off. If you look at the underside of the tuner you will see a large and small hole on the strap. the tuner has a small knob on it. the knop fits into the large hole and slides to the smaller hole to keep it secure. Some have issues with instructions on the tuner's use. I found it very intuitive. once installed turn it on and pluck a string the tuner will respond with a note and some lines on either side of the note. tune to the point that the note you want has a small blue line on either side of the note. It seemed touchy on my banjo that is the best I could tune.

First of all I'd like to congratulate Ned Steinberger for taking the time to design a tuner just for the banjo. Great idea and long over due. I was excited to get a tuner made just for the banjo. So, I took it out of the box checked it out and then tried to decide where on my banjo was the best place to put it. I finally decided on a position, after trying several, then when I looked at the box it came in again I noticed that I had placed it in the same position of the picture on the front of the box. Duh! As far as I can tell it works just fine. I have had no problems with it. I have even used the metronome which again was a great idea. It's obviously a benefit to be able to replace the battery from the back instead of having to take it off and replace the battery underneath somehow. Because the tuner is placed directly on a tension rod I believe that it picks up good vibrations from the head and rim which is another benefit. Also, as stated in the instructions, you do not have to remove it to put it in the case. In fact, the banjo strap does not touch it. I bought one for each of my three banjos and have just forgotten having to worry about a tuner. I just hope I remember to have a supply of extra batteries. Lastly, I gave the tuner a five star rating because I've had no problems with it so far. Again, a great idea for a banjo.

I love the idea of this tuner. For the price it performs well. Surprisingly enough, at least I was surprised to find that it is not super easy to find a good location on the banjo ring clamps to mount. You are limited to specific locations because you need to see the lcd and my banjo strap also needs to occupy similar areas. Couple that with my electronic 1/4" jack for electrifying my instrument and it can take a few minutes to find the place you like that will work well. It ultimately worked out all right. It functions pretty good. I really don't love the interface with bars on each side of a note letter. I prefer a gauge style tuner but that is personal preference. Accuracy is fair. My banjo is tuned open G and it struggles a bit with the B string which brings me to my ultimate point for the review. I think you need your ear to final fine tune the instrument. The tuner itself does not get it close enough in my opinion and if you have an experienced ear, all will be fine. If not, I would suggest a tuner with a better interface if your ear training needs some work. Full disclosure, I believe all tuners function that way. A tuner is a good tool to get you close, but I am rarely satisfied with the tuner results for multiple reasons and ultimately use my ear.....or other musicians instruments that I am playing with so take my above criticism with a grain of salt. I think ultimately I have purchased better tuners that clip on for half the price, but the cool form factor and the fact that I final tune by ear anyway makes this an acceptable product for me. I am on the fence on whether or not I would buy another to replace it. It is also a specialty form factor, so would be tough to quickly move this tuner from instrument to instrument like my other clip on tuners. However, if you dig the cool form factor, don't need the tuner to get you all the way home, and can spring the extra money for essentially a dedicated instrument tuner, then buy it. It does "work". If you are new to the instrument, your ear training needs work, or if you have multiple instruments and want a tuner that works with em all...I would likely pass.

Honestly amazed this doesn’t cost more. I know daddario knows how to make quality products but this one is awesome. Small and secure enough to leave on all the time even in the hard case

While Snark makes a great tuner, mechanically they suck. Broken mounts, lost pad resulting in a scratched peg head, etc. I own over a dozen banjos, both tenor and 5 string and ave 4 that get played weekly. Consequently I have 4 tuners permanently mounted on the banjos and one extra for any banjo I want to take off the rack. I never show up at a gig without a tuner. The tuner works well and unlike the reviewer who mounted his backwards, tilts for easy viewing from any playing position. You can also invert the display and easily change the tuning frequency to accommodate instruments (like concertinas or bagpipes) that are not tuned concert. I pits perfectly on my 1" and 12" banjos but some of the cheapies, like the Goodtime, may have an issue but easy enough to extend the "arms" to accommodate non standard bracket widths. It is possible to break the mount, as one reviewer noted. It is, after all, made of flexible plastic, but only if you don't understand how it fits (read the directions?) and try to manhandle it into place. BTW I have a drawer of working and partially broken Snarks. The have a sterling replacement program but I have never needed to replace my Planet Waves tuner.

Have the people who designed this thing ever *seen* a banjo? It does not fit, in any fashion I can think up, any of my banjos. It's not a matter of the number of hooks, it's the fact that at best it rattles around -- this on high-hook-count Vegas as well as others. I'm sure it is possible to make a bespoke banjo tuner, but this sure as hell ain't it. AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS: Got it to more or less work, once I used a metal pick (not a banjo pick) to get the residue of the adhesive plastic off the battery. It still wants to buzz and slide around, though. Its size is convenient enough, but this is more than canceled by an overly stiff on/off button. The door to the battery compartment, too, is apparently overly stiff, though perhaps I'm doing it incorrectly. I can't know, though, because it came, as mentioned, with absolutely no instructions. I can't believe the company was serious about this product.

It would not pick up the b string from the top of the banjo if I put it on the bottom it worked but was to small to see defeated the whole purpose of getting it tried to contact the maker by e mail they did not respond if they don't care about their products why should I I returned it to amazon

I purchased this tuner on 15th April 2026 and it cost £20.40p I have found the tuner to be unobtrusive on my 5 string banjo. The tuner is on a swivel, so it can be moved into a position you prefer when tuning and folded down out of the way when you want to play. I noted that some reviewers state that it has a problem recognising the g on the 5th string. Looking at this, I discovered that if you pull the tuner all the way up (see last photo) it has more surface area and therefore will easily recognise the 5th string. When fitting, I did try to slide it under two of the J hooks brackets (under one bracket and then backwards under another) but I was unsure whether the plastic brace that goes under the hooks would break, so I did loosen one hook that allowed more room to slide the 2nd half of the plastic brace/support of the tuner under, and then tightened the hook over it. Look carefully at the measurement of the part that goes under the hooks. Reason being that it fits very well on my Tanglewood Cove Creek 5 string, but whether it will fit on your banjo will depend on the spacing of your J hook brackets. I actually would have bought a 2nd tuner to attach to my Deering Goodtime 5 string, but the spacing of the hook brackets is too far apart for the tuner to be attached. The length of the fixing bracket on the tuner is about 95mm and the centre of the bracket has a notch to rest on a hook bracket, so if your banjo hook brackets are spaced wider that 45mm it will not fit. If you buy it and it doesn’t fit, at least with Amazon you can easily return it for a refund. Glad I bought it and it nicer not to permanently have a clip on tuner on your peghead.

Facile à installer, facile à utiliser, discret et précis, il permet presque de faire mentir l'adage pourtant largement vérifié sur les banjos : "la moitié du temps à s'accorder, l'autre moitié du temps à jouer faux !" Je recommande vivement à tous les banjoïstes !

Funktion wie bei anderen Tunern auch. Es lümmelt sich zwischen Spannhaken herum. Es könnte meiner Meinung nach fester sein.
