SAQs for the Final FRCA Examination (Oxford Specialty Training Revision Texts)

Passed first time! I saw this book in many a pair of hands on the revision courses...Concise, detailed completely relevant practice questions.Diagrams simplified and easy to learn (including anatomy!)

After an initial unsuccessful attempt I decided practise, practise, practise was the way forward. After a good look around I opted for this as an SAQ base, I've not been disappointed. Well structured into topic areas (general, obs, Peads, neuro, vascular/cardiac, ICU, pain, regional) with a good covering (curriculum wise) in each section. I know these OST books are written to the curriculums and that is reassuring! I liked the anatomy/regional section as this is often poorly offered elsewhere and the line diagrams are easy to reproduce in a flash for quick marks.I'm using it to set myself mock exams and then marking the papers afterwards and it lends itself to this well. The answers are similar well written and cement the techniques used for the exam (define or die, divide and classify, pre/intra/post op). One tip: don't work cover to cover, a 3 hr written obstetric exam is really exhausting!!Works well as a quick aide memoir prior to a list, but I wouldn't buy it exclusively for this. Possibly works well as an structure of teaching talks too.In conclusion; although the results are yet to be seen as a set of SAQs its a great start and practise material. Definitely recommend.

I liked reading this book but many of the answers given are lacking detail and are therefore not model answers. There is a lot of "white space" which would have been well utilised for detail

I didn't use this book the first time I sat the exam and I failed :-( Somebody suggested this book and all I can say is that I passed after that! The topics are very current and the sample questions and answers are just like the real exam. There aren't many up to date preparation books for the exam and this is one of the best out there.
