After many months of use, no problems so far
After many months using this drive as part of a set for my incremental backups I’ve not had any trouble at all. Good drive for a reasonable price (at the time of purchase).

Was uncertain about "renewed" but have had no issues at all
(Update: have now purchased 1 18tb and 1 20tb and both performed well for long-term storage backups, not used daily.) Original review: Wasn't recognized on my Mac initially (this is normal and expected) then I partitioned this 18TB drive into 4 "drives" using Disk Utility so I can run backups of my entire system (with 4 disks connected) onto one disk and easily store that single disk off-site. Disk Utility crashed while I was attempting to partition the first time but I don't think that was the fault of this drive. It partitioned successfully on the 2nd attempt and I've run two backups now, with zero problems. I would purchase again at this price point. I'm not a tech guru but running this drive from a "toaster"-style drive holder, connected to a MacBook Air via that cord with a lightning bolt on it (at both ends), I was seeing copy speeds of around 150-400MB/s (usually at that lower end) though it goes up and down for reasons I don't comprehend.

Way quieter than reviews would suggest (Many updates, over time, below)
UPDATE 10/5/23: SECOND DRIVE FAILURE. Well this is starting to look shabby in regards to the quality of these drives. Over the last year or so, of the 4x drives I have purchased, 2x have now failed. I contacted Tech on Tech and they were great with their customer service, as they always are, and sent me an RMA # to receive said drive (12TB Exos X18). I really like the X18 line, and have had many in the past but herein lies a big problem with all of the RMAs: you return your drive and get what they have in stock IE it's very doubtful I'll get another X18 in exchange for my faulty X18. We'll see what happens, will update as always with results. UPDATE 9/23/23: Since ordering my first drive from this company (almost a year ago to date above) I've had one drive failure (see previous update below) which had a very fast, no hassle whatsoever turn around and of the other 3x HDDs (which are all Exos 18x 12TB HDDs, which I requested and they filled no prob) are all running perfectly without any issues. This company is reputable and reliable. They don't hassle you within the 2 year warranty period, and I can say after dealing with them through a defective drive scenario they're worth the price, 100%. I'm basically updating this review because I am back on their page ordering another 4x 18TB HDDs, that I am told (by tech on tech) have the same specs as the Seagate Exos X20 18TB drives (ST18000NM003D). I will be updating this review with my findings, as this will be my first time ordering anything other than their 12TB drives. I'm cautious this time because the seller stated that these drives "have the same specs as the ST18000NM003D drives" which I interpret as not being Seagate (who I trust as a brand, moreover the Exos line). Will update, as always, after some time with the 18TB drives. UPDATE 2/21/23: Can't say enough. Requested (2x) x18 Exos 12TB drives and thats what i got. I now have a super affordable RAID array, with quality hdd drives for my 4k movie collection. PLUS a ton of extra space for projects and games. I know ove updates this review quite a few times, but it bears repeating: these drives are quality and if, in the event you have a faulty drive (reallocations) they help you and ship the replacement asap (short the shipping I paid to get the bad drive back to them, ~$20). Overall, happy. UPDATE 2/10/23: AWESOME TECH SUPPORT/CUSTOMER SERVICE! They had a replacement drive in the mail a day after receiving the defective drive. New drive is better than the first. Very happy with this company. You take the risk buying reused enterprise drives, but for the price, im down. Ordered another 2x today to add to my RAID array. Word to the wise: always have a back up drive with everything 1:1 if youre going to play the renewed game. IMO its totally worth it for ~$10 per TB. UPDATE 2/2/23: Drive has failed with ~43000 reallocations. Sent drive back to TechonTech (at my own expense, ~$20 shipping) and am awaiting a replacement to secure my Raid array. This was not optimal, who wants a dead drive in 4 months working time but this is only one of 3 that has failed. Well see how the others hold up in time. For now im removing 2 stars. The inconvenience is a burden atm and im worried for my data that currently sits on one drive. Will Update with the resolution. Its been a few months since purchase and install. I use this HDD for media storage via torrent DLs essentially. The sound level has not been a prob at all. Via other reviews i wonder if quality varies with these, as mine is quiet as can be. Disk read/write noise is barely noticeable past what you'd expect from a mechanical drive. No clicking or buzzing etc, on my unit. Would reccomend and plan to order 3x more for server use. Update: Its been 3-4 months and the drive is still spinnin! I bought another 2 and am running a Raid array. As of now, flawless and not that noisey next to a Toshiba drive of the same age, which is a jet plane in comparison. My OG review stands, would reccomend. Though i still am curious how they vary from drive to drive sas they are refurbs. Imo, save em from the trash heap!

Works well.
Great for my security system and keeping a lot of history makes finding problems a breeze.

Doesn't Amazon do quality control?
First of all, I have been dealing with computers since 1987 and have been in the computer hardware business for 15 years. At least I'm not a beginner. 1. As soon as I received the product, there were dents everywhere. 2. Even if there is a dent, if there is no problem with the product, I tried to use it. So, to check the product, I created a partition and first full formatted it normally. (If there is nothing wrong with the full format, I tried to proceed with the low-level format.) However, it is not formatted. (It goes up to 99% and then goes away.) It took a week. I tried again just in case, but the result was the same. If I had more time, I would have tried a low-level format with another computer. But two weeks have passed since testing this product. I did not want to waste time, so I applied for a return today.

Just buy them. Don't hold back either
16,000 hours in (almost 2 years) on 2 of these drives, in a server case with 6 other drives, no vibration protection at all, over 11,000 head flying hours, and these things are still going strong. My only regret with them is when I bought them on sale, I only bought 2. They ARE noisy but absolutely worth getting. Do not be scared by the renewed label. btw these guys are scanned every other day or so, including a full surface scan weekly. Its not a fluke, they really are working well.

Only 18 Power On Hours
I received the drive 6/17/23. It was packed well in the typical heavy pocket style bubble wrap drives are shipped in. No noticeable wear or dings on the outside of the drive. I received a Seagate EXOS 14tb drive. Ran a couple smart tests with gsmartcontrol on linux. A short test revealing total power on hours was 18 hours. Thought that was awesome. Im a pretty skeptical person so my brain always goes to "Why sell such an expensive drive at such a cost that only has 18 hours on it?". Im a Telemetry Engineer and have involvement throughout our companies Telemetry System "stack", and we leased a physical server early on in our project. Im assuming previously leased machines are where these devices come from, as re-leasing storage is would not be a good business practice. The drives from leased servers get sold to qualified storage cleaners, they thoroughly wipe the drives of all private data, and resell the drives at a discounted rate. A deep scan reveal no errors. No bad sectors to speak of. Max life time temp was 51 C. As of now Im going to give the company the benefit of a doubt and say they arent wiping smart data. Its feasible to do so, but seems like we would be getting ALOT more duds than what is has been shown in the reviews. I will buy more of these drives, as I Ive gotten bit a little by the data hoarder bug. Controversial information and opensource LLMs need to be preserved for the future :) Update 2/2/25 Bought 2 of these total and almost 2 years since my purchase with MANY shut downs these are still running strong in an old Dell R720 server running off solar with a 2000w inverter. Highly recommend.

EXCELLENT purchase!!
I am extremely pleased with my order of 10 drives. Packaging was incredible (see pics) every drive looks brand new, clean, labled... And most importantly every drive read free of errors and mounted with zero problems on my Mac Pro 5,1. I am now running them in a Raid 50 configuration. There is just a tiny bit of disc noise when discs start up, but once running there very quiet... I'm actually impressed at how quiet. I have my fan set to auto to take care of air flow, seems to run cooler than the 16tb drives in my 4 bay. (Not hitting speed 3 of 3 as often.) I was very skeptical about making this purchase because every brand of hard drive not WD or Toshiba have given me headaches!!... But for this price and needing more than a few, I just had to take the chance... I will run my raid 50 array for several weeks and repost if necessary. Wish I could have afforded more!! Edit: May 28, 2021 I wrote this when the drives were just over 200.00 a piece!! there twice that right now because of the current hard drive market. This statement was made during a very lucky time b4 all hard drive prices sky rocketed! But I have not had any issues with any of the hard drives after weeks of 24/7 use...., very nice!!
