Very good
Originally disappointed in the bullet point style of information in this book because l am looking for a more in depth approach to this subject. But then l realised it is perfect for my adult daughter to read. She avoids complex reading now she can as it is stressful. Rather than risk a 'shut down' l have been researching Aspergers for her, because of course she was never lucky enough to have her difference correctly diagnosed at school or university. It will be much better if she can read Dr Temple Grandin's accessible book for herself, so although l was going to return it l have changed my mind. It is heartening to learn of Dr Grandin's success in spite of and because of her learning difference and l absolutely agree that we need to celebrate that difference not fight it. Sadly l was unaware of Aspergers when my children were young, l have only come to some under standing after recent media exposure rang very loud bells and l started my own research. Thankyou to Dr Grandin for writing this book, for the courage, integrity and will to help others that clearly motivates her.

Understand autism with this brilliant book
An excellent book very informative. You owe it to your family if anyone of them is on the autistic spectrum to read this and understand what you are dealing with and why it happens. This enables you to understand and help and show compassion . Brilliant. Download the film Temple Grandin too. And watch it more than once.

V Useful guide to autism
I bought this book as a fellow Aspie woman to see if I could understand myself more, and write my fictional children stories more authentically. This book is a fantastic source of information about why people have autism and Asperger's Syndrome, and the different way we think. I finished reading it coming away learning more about myself and how I think, and the different autistic levels there are eg non-verbal.

I ordered this for my husband who is a man ...
I ordered this for my husband who is a man in his late 40s diagnosed with quite extreme Asperger Syndrome. We found the attitude to Apsperger sufferers negative and disrespectful and other aspects of commentarycontradictory and patronising.

Excellent comprehensive book. Thorough and Understandable.
Probably the most comprehensive and common sense book on autism I have read out of about 8 books. I actually listened to the book on audible, mostly while driving or doing housework and was not bored at all. Even parts that didn't relate to my child (like info on non verbal autism) were interesting. I purchased the actual book because I felt it would be easier to reference information from the book rather than the audible version saved to my icloud. Promotes comprehensive approaches to assisting people in the spectrum from diet, to medication (extremely helpful info on meds, my child is currently not medicated but should the need arise I feel far more prepared to disc uss options with a doctor having read this book) to sensory aids like tinted lenses and just good old fashioned parenting, consistently expecting polite behavior with consistent, appropriate consequences. Temple shares her own experiences as an autistic as well as experiences gathered from the masses of people on the spectrum that she has met and collaborated with.
