A gritty, snark-filled, rollercoaster of fun!
Death and Desire is book two in the Jezebel files and wastes no pages before jumping straight into the action! It's a snark-filled rollercoaster of fun that doesn't shy away from dark and gritty realities.Ash has a new mystery to solve but she's not alone... Her colourful assortment of friends and frenemies are on hand to lend a hand!Throughout the book, we learn more about the origins of Ash's powers, her relationships evolve, the world-building improves (or maybe its easier to follow after the crash course of book one?) and the series plot thickens.Pretty much everything I said regarding book one can be applied here: Fast-paced, engrossing, and hilarious. Wonderful characters and a romance that is still very much will they/won't they (with a side dish of super-steamy fun).Deborah Wilde writes spiky women with heart. There's bad language and hard realities galore. Characters make decisions that you'll find frustrating and people will annoy you more than they thrill you but that's part of what I've enjoyed about the first two books... This may be urban fantasy but the problems arising, the political wrangling (between those with and without magic) and the personal trials and issues of the characters are all too real.I'm very much loving this series and will be continuing... Not to mention reading the author's other work.

Better and better
This series just keeps getting better. It’s a great story full of so many grey areas that mean maybe those you thought were “bad” maybe aren’t so bad after all. Ash is owning and accepting the person she is and the supporting characters all have depth. They aren’t perfect all of them have a vulnerability about them which makes the relationships more real. I want to move to Vancouver and feast on japadogs and jelly donuts

Another great book!
I love Ash and Priya. Ash has a very similar internal dialogue to people I know! These books transport you into a different believable world.

A good series to get your teeth into
I really enjoyed this book, the second in this series and it didn’t disappoint. Ash is brilliantly sarcastic and I love how she interacts with people. Stories with the secondary characters are superb and give the plot extra depth. We learn more about the MC’s, imperious one is a hot as ever, makes you crave biscotti.I’m definitely recommending this story, its hard to put down!

The banter is spot on
Really enjoyed this installment of the Jezebel Files.Wilde is extremely good at witty banter and writing conversations that 'feel real.' All to often I find that I will be reading a book and the characters will say something and it will jerk me from the story because it sounds 'stage managed' and not how a normal person speaks. Wilde has no such problem and slides in the pop culture references left right and centre in a most piquant, entertaining and 'snort out loud' manner.Ash has finally become the type of Private Eye that she wants to be: One with challenging cases, intrigue and interest. The only issue is that she is still classed as mundane and the cases she is working are Nefesh territory. Throw in the fact that her mother is actively campaigning against to have the Nefesh placed under Mundane control and Ash has a very delicate and trick path to navigate.Throw in a case against the "Angel of Death" working for the Queen and Ash is in a whole heap of trouble - exacerbated by the fact that she, like us, is still getting to know the Nefesh world with it's unspoken rules and strange laws.We also have some romantic development with Imperious1 - which is so frustrating but at the same time so well observed when two characters have such a tricky history. I'm really beginning to 'stan' this couple.I feel that this story whilst very funny and providing some serious intrigue is also multi tasking as a foundation layer for the next in the series. This is more about character development and getting Ash to where she needs to be to take on the Jezebel mantle.I'm really excited for the next book because I think that this is where the Jezebel Files is going to exceed any and all expectations.
