Riders of the Steppes: The Complete Cossack Adventures, Volume Three

A Great Adventure Book
This is another great book in Harold Lamb's Klit the Cossak series. I have bought and binge read the whole series, one book after the other, despite their length. Yes, they are THAT good ! I highly recommend them.

Best of the Series?
Probably the best set of stories of the series, though I really liked book two as well. In these stories, Lamb seems to have "reached his stride" as an author. These stories, which were longer and contained lots of interesting details, seemed to flow more easily, had richer details, and provided a bit more depth of character not only for the main players but even for a few of the lesser ones as well. I continue to be amazed at the quality of this work. It was written in the 20s and, despite some of the racial characterizations that may jar some PC readers, the overall experience is one of sensing that you have lived a bit of 18th century, Cossack reality (and, of course, had a great adventure in the bargain). I can see why these stories have influenced so many of our modern fantasy writers.

Another Cossack WOW book
Every volume in the collected tales of Harold Lamb is a WOW book. Riders of the Steppes is another example. I recommend all eight books in the University Of Nebraska Bison reprint series of Harold Lamb.

Great Series
I enjoyed the book very much. Kind of book that once you start you have to finish! Now on to the next one!

As historically based literature it is timeless
As historically based literature it is timeless, as are all of Harold Lamb's literary works.Having read so many of Harold Lamb's historical novels over 50 years ago, It's like meeting old friends.

Highly entertaining action
Just cries out to be ripped off. Excellent fully plotted stories by a now-forgotten author. Would make a great basis for movies, fictional barbarian novels, what-have-you.
