Product Description In one of the rare cases where the film version does the book version justice, and where a sequel matches its predecessor, "Anne of Avonlea" continues the story of headstrong Anne Shirley as an adult, struggling as an aspiring writer and English teacher. Two suitors vie for Anne's affections while she courageously and optimistically rallies against rejection letters, indifferent mainlanders, and crotchety hearts-of-gold. Intelligent, faithful scripting and beautiful camera work, plus scores of inspiring moments. CC, 3 hours 45 min. on 2 cassettes. .com This video is the sequel to the beloved children's book and video Anne of Green Gables. It continues the story of Anne Shirley, an imaginative and headstrong young orphan in 1890s Canada, whose hot temper matches her red hair. Anne of Green Gables told of Anne's adoption by an elderly brother and sister, Marilla (Colleen Dewhurst) and Matthew Cuthbert, and her childhood adventures in the idyllic village of Avonlea on Prince Edward Island. Anne of Avonlea takes up the story soon after Matthew's death, when Anne has graduated from college. It follows her struggles and adventures as an aspiring writer and English teacher in a private school on the mainland. Girls seven and older, as well as adults, will enjoy this intelligent and beautifully made film, first shown on PBS. It's filled with themes parents can discuss with their daughters--including self-reliance, generosity, and perseverance. It also gives a realistic portrayal of the situation for women during this historical period, through characters that are multifaceted and human. Anne's struggle to find her voice as a writer, to handle difficult people maturely, to stay optimistic despite setbacks, and to nurture her students are both thought provoking and entertaining. Girls will also enjoy Anne's romantic travails, as she tries to decide between two suitors: her childhood friend Gilbert, and a rich, handsome, and mysterious widower. The film is beautifully filmed, and the costumes and settings portray an idyllic time and place. The cast is excellent. Megan Follows as the spirited Anne and Dewhurst as the gruff but tender Marilla give especially fine performances. --Elisabeth Keating

Good quality
This video was a treat to be able to see a story I haven’t seen since childhood. The quality of video was good, it’s not HD but better than a VHS. This is a good item.

A nice sequel
A nice sequel to Anne of Green Gables. Sticks (more or less, sometimes less!) to the original books. But then, the scriptwriters advise you of this fairly. So, on the whole, well done.

Beautiful movie but over priced
I’ve loved this version of Anne since the 80’s. It originally came as a boxed set for less than $20. It’s sold here in 2 parts for almost $20 each part which was a bummer, but I am a loyal fan so I paid up.If you enjoy lush scenery, conflict and love this movie is for you

Anne of Green Gables story continues ❤️
My all time favorite movie. This continues the story of Anne and Gilbert. I consider Meggen Fellows the best Anne yet. Gilbert too but I can’t recall his actual name. It saddens me that “Gilbert” died at an early age. He was a great actor. My heart goes out to his family.

This is a timeless classic, done to perfection
If only productions like this were the rule and not the exception. I'll leave the other long reviews to explain the plot and name the characters. I have the first two and finally am ordering the 3rd where Anne and Gilbert are together as they should be. Should have bought the boxes set, but I didn't know when I bought these how they fit together (I have one with Kim Braden as well but it's not in this league). The story line is well known, but how this was filmed makes it all seamless as the story unfolds. Megan Follows does a wonderful job balancing Anne's temper with her compassion. You just don't see this enough in stories. The normal Hollywood drivel that I don't bother with anymore makes people seem one-dimensional, with some struggles, but not the clear 2 sides that many of us face. How some wrongs set us off but how much we long to make them right again. Anne's ability to talk bluntly but sweetly is a testament to Montgomery's wonderful storytelling, and a first-class combination of script writer, director and producer. Megan Follows portrays Anne in a way that makes it seem like she really is Anne. I suppose once you start watching you might as well believe that. The production is first rate. The masterful choice of the locations, the scenery and the indoor sets make it feel like we're there and wish we could talk with the characters. It's hard to describe, but this just doesn't come across as contrived. It isn't the in-the-face closeness that Hollywood is now known for, but it isn't the perennial distance shots that they used in the 50's and earlier either. There is a great balance for when something should be close and when it should show the setting and provide a very realistic context - because in real life the context matters a lot about how we feel about things. The feeling of the college and the Harris' place, come to mind here. You want to walk down those streets and see it for yourself. The choices for Mr and old Mrs Harris were perfect. The way the picnic was handled stellar. These are points that really make the store come alive. The cranky old woman who finally becomes herself before passing away are what make stories about Anne such a joy to watch. The "mean girl" student who finally comes around through kindness instead of harsh discipline. I could go on.This is a story you have to experience.

All time fav movie series
I have been a huge fan of Anne of Green Gables since I was very little. I have a huge collection, and have read all the books. I usually watch the movies atleast once a year, however for whatever reason I haven't in the last few years so I decided to sit down and watch them again. I am one those people that have to watch from beginning to end, I cannot start halfway through. So I finished the first movie and went to put the second one in and that is when I realized it was gone. I was heartbroken, this is my favorite movie out of the whole series because of the love story that grows between Anne and Gilbert. I was very happy to find it on Amazon for a lot less then I would have had to pay at the stores.

Wonderful!
I bought the DVD of Anne of Green Gables the sequel which I'd seen it many times on television as a child and wanted to watch it again. It was still brilliant. It's the continuation of the story of an orphan girl who is adopted by elderly sister and brother farm owners. Anne is now grown up and goes to teach at a girls' school where she comes up against a frustrated colleague who dislikes teaching and dislikes Anne. Of course, Anne's beguilling nature wins her over. A cast of wonderful characters, I was laughing and crying most of the way through. I also love the sound track to it. Like Anne of Green Gables, this Sequel is also a Classic.
