so powerful!
I didn’t want this book to end!!! From the beginning I was in love with the main character and I loved her to the very end!! Nothing is better to me than a book with a strong character, a good story, and teaches you something along the way & this did all three!!

Incredible read
The reviews mentioning the bad grammar are incredibly embarrassing, one was written by a Language Arts teacher with 35 years experience. THE MAIN CHARACTER HAS LIMITED AND BROKEN ENGLISH. As you read, you watch her evolve and develop and her language improves. I can't believe people don't see this for the blindingly obvious character development that it is. Now, back to the book. This book was incredibly eye opening to the injustice of young women and people around the world. The amount of strength the main character had to endure was incredible and I was enthralled with her journey. A beautiful story.

Just read it!
What an amazing book. A story of heartache and hope. From beginning to end Adunni's story is told in her own voice, her broken English drawing you in and gripping your heart. I hope this new author continues to tell her stories.

a view into the lives of poor Nigerians.
Difficult to know how often slavery inside Nigeria actually happens but if there is a bit of truth here it can s truly sad. Poverty is definitely an issue so selling/giving one’s child to marriage is something that certainly happens.

A Different Kind of Book
The book reads differently from other ones I’ve read. It takes a while to get used to the protagonist’s voice, but she has a dry wit in her speech and thoughts. Parts of the book move a bit too slowly, but overall it kept my interest.

hard to put down
I enjoyed it very much. I also learned a little about Nigeria that was interesting. I only wish it was longer, it sort of ended a bit abruptly.

A delightful read
I enjoyed reading this book. I loved the use of non standard English which made the voice of the main character so authentic. The story conveyed the sadness, fears, and joys, of a young girl so well and managed to convey the disparate lives of the affluent and the poor. Most of all it painted a picture of what it must be like to be trafficked and helpless and with little hope. Yet hope and joy permeated this book and that is it's beauty. Beautifully written.
