Western/Mountain Bluebird House

A really nice, sturdy birdhouse for Western bluebirds. The walls are super thick (1” or more) to insulate from cold or heat. It gets really hot here in summer, and last year when using a less sturdy birdhouse, all 3 babies were killed by the heat (110 degrees). It is also more roomy....5” X 5” floor space. This give western bluebirds more needed space, as they generally lay more eggs than the Eastern bluebirds. I also like that there are large ventilation slots, and drainage holes on bottom. The construction makes it pretty much leakproof. I put it up even though cold weather is coming, as sometimes bluebirds will roost inside together in winter to escape the cold. We will see if they will accept this new box!

This is a great birdhouse and comes with some really neat literature. Something to be aware of: you should hang only about 4 to 6 feet high. I purchased over the summer, so waiting for winter and spring to see what lucky family nests in it.

I like it but no bird nest yet

Fairly crude construction and minimal materials (door pivots on two screws for example). It has a clip to attach it to a nail on a post which I would not consider at all secure. To mount it on top of a post you will need to buy something to attach to the 5x5 bottom of the bird house. This post adapter cost is in addition to a metal ring to protect the opening for the birdhouse.

For the quality and craftsmanship, this birdhouse is a bargain. Just hung it on a fence post. Waiting for bluebird family. Much bigger and robust than the picture conveys.
