Breezy A Movie Review: 40 years laterWilliam R. PickettIt is forty years old, I was in my 30's then and now I am in my 70's.Breezy was an alright move back then; still is. Actually I am enjoying it more and seeing it with a different set of eyes. I realized after seeing this movie that my perspective about life has changed somewhat too. In 1973, I saw her nipples, in 2013, I saw a young actress that was creative and believable. Maybe I have grown up a little bit. Breezy is about a young girl, newly arrived in southern California from the east coast. She is in her late teens, looking to fit into the hippie movement. This young teenager is not a drop out nor dysfunctional on any level. That is not part of her make up even though her behavior and social activities may lean that way. She is not a tramp nor what one would consider to be a loose character even though her sleeping habits, may appear questionable to some people. Breezy is just young and naturally, would give it up from time to time; like most of her generation did. Although she does bond with the hippie movement, there are some exceptions; alcohol and drugs will not work for her and she is aware of that. She simply doesn't' fit that role. Breezy has that something special that most of us would like to have and that is integrity. Even though with her shortcomings, there is still a sensitivity and honesty about her that is apparent. Perhaps when Frank and her meet he senses that there is something very special in her that is obviously missing in his life. Frank is just the opposite; but in relationship to Breezy, society will say he is a dirty old man playing around with some pretty little young thing with a tight booty. But Frank is not guilty of that either; he is just growing older, pushing 50, divorced, pays alimony, depressed, probably burned out at work, and to top it all off is losing what appears to be a cultured relationship with a beautiful lady that is seriously interested in him. Frank, don`t care, he is just fed up with life, and reluctantly going through the emotions, doing whatever has to be done to keep the wheels of life turning. This unlikely couple meet by accident and their unexpected relationship develops, into something very interesting; something very special for both of them. Frank was late for work, he had just put last night's sleep over in a cab when the young hippy confronted him for a ride back down the mountain side. After accepting her request, Frank was a little uneasy with her and spent the ride down the hill wondering how in the hell he was going to get her out of the car. Breezy's was the opposite, composed in her demeanor and maybe a little aggressive in the conversations between the two. Breezy was young, and he, being more than twice her age, did not slow her interest. Regardless of the age factor, one way or another, she was already developing a plan to get in Frank's bed. Breezy first declaration of love came when Frank was putting her to bed after a brief trip to the ocean. Breezy was either asleep or pretending to be asleep when she opens her eyes slowly and smiles, " I knew you wouldn't do it" and he smells at home. "Frank, would you mind if I love you, I would not ask you to love me back". Breezy drifts off to sleep mumbling " I love you, I love you". After a couple of nights of passion with Breezy, he felt a live and in love. Franks decoration came on a mountain top over looking the Pacific Ocean. He tells Breezy, " All I could think about this morning was you." Later in the conversation, she tells him, " I know you feel something for me or you could not have made love to me that way." And ever later in the conversation, she ask him what do you really feel. "I feel concern for another human being, an awareness of life, fantastic excitement when I touch you, an interest in another human being, a genuine interest in some one other than myself". Breezy looks at him and says, "You feel all of that for me"? Frank responds, "Yes" She looks at him patiently , "you love me." "I didn't mention love" She looks in Franks eyes and said, "yes, you did" The rest of the movie is great and has great acting. Some of these other scenes with Frank, Breezy, Betty, and Paula are most interesting. Paula, the ex-wife of Franks, is used up. She is a hopeless alcoholic obviously draining Franks' income with his monthly alimony checks. There is an interesting scene in the restaurant between Paula and Frank. Paula is standing in front of Frank and Breezy's table looking over at Breezy she says, "God you are so young", and then looks back at Frank seemingly puzzled which changes quickly into scorn with a condescending laughter that would have peeved a Sunday morning preacher off. You could see the angry reaction in his eyes, like he wanted slap the smirk right off her face. But the next scene, his anger changed, slowly fading away as he turns back to Breezy, who is sitting directly across from him. She had been keenly watching his reaction to Paula's combative behavior. When Frank shifts his attention back to Breezy, he looks in her eyes and smiles, she is so relieved and happy. Frank realized now what that something special in her life really meant to him.. In 1973 I might have wanted to sock her myself, but 2013, I can only see the good that came out of that scene and the value of handling a matter wisely. Betty is Frank's present day girlfriend has several scenes with him that are really interesting and as always she appears to have the last word. In all these scenes between these two, he acts like a man who is being asked his name and stuck for answer. Frank is a little dumbfounded and uncomfortable in his responses in how to react to her. At Betty's party after the wedding, she is sitting by Frank and he looks at her seriously and says "I feel a terrible sense of lose, I wish it could have been more." Betty looked at him for a moment and responded, "It was, I just wish you could have been there." Frank sat there speechless. You can tell that the screen play came from a woman and it was witty, in the sense that she gave Paula, Betty and Breezy clever and mature lines to cope and correct Frank's attitude. In my opinion the writer made the movie. Where would the movie Breezy be without Jo Helm's talent? No doubt William Holden was one of the all time great actors but playing Frank may have been more difficult than I had imagined; especially putting up with all those women. Kay Lenz is a beautiful lady and did a great job in her role as Breezy Clint Eastwood directed the movie and has to be given the credit for everything. were mature adults. Of course I did not see it that way in 1973.

A Beautiful Lazy, Sunday Evening Movie!!!
"Breezy" is the perfect movie to watch on a warm, lazy Sunday afternoon. You will absolutely love it!The story line was well edited; what I mean by this is that you never get that; "it-can-only-happen-in-a-movie" sense. This is what the story is about:Breezy is a young (about 18 or 19), free spirited girl who lives her life spontaneously, but deep inside is a very wise soul. She doesn't have a job or goes to college, but lives day to day and always seems to be happy. She smiles a lot and is wise enough to know that happiness is all a matter of perspective, how one chooses to interpret things and see the world. You get the sense, very early in the movie that Breezy is a genuinely good person.Frankie is an older gentleman (50s) who lives alone and doesn't feel that he needs anyone in his life. He has convinced himself that being alone is not all that bad. He is a real estate broken that owns a very nice home and seems to live a quiet life. You get the sense, early in the movie that Franky is genuinely a good person as well.Like two boats floating on the surface of a vast ocean, its currents (fate) seem to draw the two boats towards each other. You would think that judging just from surface factors, that each person has something that the other might want or need. Breezy needs a home, food and stability. Franky; companionship and love--yet the movie is about something deeper, something more genuine, something that transcends time and space and the limitations of our conditioned mind.Nothing is rushed, everything just unfolds naturally. Breezy, her innocence, her purity causes her to very quickly fall in love with Franky, whose many more years of mental conditioning causes him to put up much more of a resistance. He doesn't want to hurt her or hurt himself by enaging in something that just simply can't be. I hope that I am not giving too much of the movie away. It is a very beautiful movie, and I highly recommend it. I hope that as more and more people watch it, that more reviews in favor of it pile up.It is one of those beautifully subtle movies that stays with you for a few days, like a cool breeze gently brushing your face on a warm summer day.I give it two thumbs way up!

Clint Eastwood directed. Great Movie. Love It!
Kay Lenz and William Holden are two of my favorite actors. The older man and much younger woman based on different cultural (and intellectual) backgrounds I thought was handled with sensitivity. There was nothing sinister or nauseating about their connection. I was intrigued at how Eastwood interjected humor "black cloud" reference about Holden's attitude which he gradually changed as he grew to love "Breezy". I loved Lenz's ability to match Holden's intellect regarding most subjects they shared. Holden's son Scott Holden appeared as the veterinarian in the film. What a great opportunity for son and father to work together. The film had a soft approach to hippie days of May/December romance that savored the era and the moment.

Great movie
I have watched this movie more than once. It has a 'feel' to it. An impossible love between a bitter older man and an older teen. The Blu-ray is nice, sharp and clear.
