BX4 4.5" Wired Studio Monitors Pair

I bought these monitors to replace a pair of failed PreSonus monitors. I have experience with other M-Audio gear and trust their reliability. Also, the price made purchasing an easy decision. Sound quality is good for small monitors and since I don't have a lot of room in my studio, small is good.

I used to have the M-Audio BX5's, and I LOVED them. But I blew one of them, so I needed replacements... and here we are. In short, they're okay... but I admit that I am heavily comparing them to my BX5's. They are NOT as good as those. But again, they are good speakers. I can see why they made the changes they did to make this pair more affordable. What I don't like: - I don't like that it's only 1/4"TRS connectors. I prefer XLR - I don't like that I have to run a dinky 1/8" connector wire from one speaker to the other. - I'm a bassist, and I'm not thrilled with bass response... but I also don't have a huge expectation here either, since they are only 4.5" speakers. What I do like: - I don't need it but it's nice to have the volume dial on the front. - I don't need it but having the headphone jack on the front is also nice. - It was a great price point for this quality of a set of speakers.

As I am more formally building out my video editing suite, I wanted something more than computer speakers but wasn’t completely sold on the need for going over the top right now. I have taken over a small bedroom in my house and knew that my larger speakers that were in my office space would not be appropriate for this sized room. The M-Audio speakers work well and are clear and capable for listening to audio near field and across the room. No issues. Easy to setup with the convenience of being able to switch which side the master speaker is on. I specifically was not looking for Bluetooth speakers as the radio delay is problematic when editing video or even weirder, the line input of several speakers that I had tried in the past had a delay with Bluetooth enabled speakers!? Still scratching my head on that. These are great for not breaking the bank and getting good quality sound without all the whizz bang extras.

sound quality is very good but they have a built-in sleep mode that cannot be disabled. After about 30 seconds of no sound, they automatically shut down. So, when you want to play something again, you have to wait like 10 full seconds for them to turn on. It's incredibly annoying. Had I known this, I would not have bought them. They still sound good, but this feature annoys me enough that I would not recommend buying them. Get something else.

Great ! Really good sound and more than enough power for a home studio. The cord connecting the two speakers could have been longer. Other than that, almost, perfect.

Buscaba unos altavoces para mejorar el sonido de mi setup con el Mac y estos M-Audio BX4 han sido un acierto total. No quería los típicos altavoces de plástico de PC y tampoco algo gigante que me ocupara toda la mesa, y estos tienen el tamaño justo. Lo que más me ha gustado: • Sonido muy equilibrado: Los uso para escuchar música mientras trabajo y para editar algún vídeo, y la claridad que tienen es de otro nivel. Los bajos tienen pegada (el driver de 4.5" se nota), pero no son esos bajos falsos que retumban y lo tapan todo. Se oye todo muy limpio. • Potencia de sobra: Con los 120W vas sobradísimo. Rara vez paso del 50% del volumen porque llenan la habitación de sobra sin distorsionar nada. • Conectividad: Los tengo conectados al Mac y cero problemas. Un puntazo es que tengan los controles de volumen y la entrada auxiliar/auriculares en el frontal; parece una tontería, pero es supercómodo para no tener que estar tanteando por detrás del altavoz. • Ajustes traseros: Tienen unas perillas para ajustar los agudos y los graves (High y Low EQ) según cómo sea tu habitación, lo cual ayuda mucho a dejarlos a tu gusto si los tienes pegados a la pared. Un detalle a tener en cuenta: Vienen con unas almohadillas de espuma para la base, lo que ayuda a que no vibre la mesa cuando les das un poco de caña. Se nota que M-Audio cuida los detalles. Conclusión: Si quieres dar el salto de unos altavoces normales a algo más profesional sin gastarte una fortuna, ve a por ellos. Con el Mac hacen una pareja estética y sonora perfecta. Suenan muy, muy bien para lo que cuestan.

The M-Audio BX4 studio monitors are an excellent budget-friendly option for beginners and home studios. They deliver clear mids, crisp highs, and controlled bass that works well in small rooms. The sound is balanced enough for music production, podcast editing, and casual mixing, though deep bass lovers may want a subwoofer. Their compact design fits easily on a desk, and the front bass port helps with placement near walls. Multiple input options and a front headphone output add convenience. Overall, BX4 monitors offer great performance, ease of use, and solid value for small-scale audio production.

They sound really good and have the key features required for a desktop system: Front panel On/Off/Volume control and headphone outlets. The Microphone input is a convenience, but probably won't be used for serious work. On the rear is the stereo RCA and 6.25mm connectors, so the speakers can be used for other functions, eg plugging in a keyboard or guitar. Also present are small Bass & Treble tone controls. A convenient feature is a switch to set the box with the controls as the left speaker or the right speaker, which allows for better flexibility in setup. To get better sound than what one gets from the computer built-in sound, I spent a measly $30 on a SoundBlaster USB to analogue converter, into which the speakers are plugged. The speakers could do with some kind of grill covering the drivers and really benefit from foam pads to sit on, which help reduce resonance and angle the speakers better (all speakers should have this)
