Perfect for me
FastCap ProCarpenter Metric/Standard Measuring Tape is perfect for me. I am an artistic wood crafter. Many times I need a metric tape measure and many times I need an imperial tape measure. I have both in one with this tape measure. I also like the flat tape for accuracy. Construction workers need a curved tape for a long reach of standout. Most of my measuring is at my work bench. I never need a curved tape. Accurate measurements are most important to me. The added features which includes a pencil sharpener and note pad are nice.

Best Tape Measure EVER!! Must have for pros and DIYers
Best Tape Measure EVER!! If you do any kind of woodworking, carpentry or measuring; whether as a professional or a hobbyist/DIYer, you NEED this tape measure. I had no idea what I was missing before I bought this. All I knew is that I encountered many frustrations measuring and marking my work. This tape measure solved all of them.1.) The tape is flat. Simple concept but with huge benefits. Easy to see your measurement on a flat surface, easy to mark it on a flat surface. No need to rock the tape to its side to get an accurate mark.2.) The metal tip does not move! This tape measurement provides consistent measurements because the tip does not slide back and forth. I never understood why tape measures do this. I'm not a professional so I may be missing something but getting a different measurement depending on whether you are measuring from the inside or outside of something has always frustrated me. Not ideal for fine woodworking where precise, consistent measurements are important.3.) It has easy to see 1/16" markings. Gone are the days of counting the tiny lines to get your precise measurements. You get your 1/16" measurements FAST!4.) Writable and erasable surface. Forget about fumbling for a piece of paper to write down your measurements. Do it on the side of this tape measure! Then erase it when your done. Genius!5.) Built in pencil sharpener. The convenience of this is self explanatory. This was kind of an Easter egg feature as I don't recall reading about it before I bought this. NOTE: this is only for round pencils, not carpenter pencils. Another GENIUS feature.6.) The clip has a thumb lever so you can open it manually when clipping it on something. No need to force slip it into your belt or pocket.I still use my regular tape measure when I need something that stays straight without holding on to something when measuring at a distance. Other than that, it stays on my pegboard and this tape measure stays with me.Verdict: AWESOME!!

Measure flat stock with a flat tape measure. Makes all the sense in the world.
Despite this tape measure's inability to stay taught when pushing the tape out (the trade off for it being flat) I'm surprised by how much I'm using this. It excels at marking flat stock on a flat surface. So, basically it is fantastic in the shop. I wouldn't want to use it on an outdoor jobsite unless I had a workbench setup because I'd probably be having to do a lot of measuring on the ground (ouch my back). That's not what this measuring tape was designed for.In my woodshop I keep a tape measure within arms-length of any stationary tool, so that means I have 8 tape measures nearby at any given time. Not to mention the straight rules, squares, etc. I'm finding myself moving my workpiece (when not gigantic) to my central assembly table, where I keep this tape measure, just because it is so nice to use.It is a super fast measuring tape in the woodshop. No longer do you need to push a side of the traditional tape measure down to the surface of what you're measuring; this tape is already there. With traditional "bent" measuring tape I used a speed square to help lineup the measurement on both sides of the tape, but there is no need to do that with this one.If you're doing a lot of flat measurements (plywood, 2x4s, rough lumber off the sawmill, etc) in the shop then you should invest in this tape measure. It will speed you up. I would advise having both this kind and a traditional one though. Once you move from a flat surface or need to measure against gravity (up a wall for example) you're going to want the traditional tape measure.

Easy to use, easy to read.
I got this flat blade because I'm always working with non flat surfaces like pvc pipes, or oval shapes & needed a better way to get the OD of many items the flexibility makes this work great for just that, but also works on any other thing(s) I might need to measure. So far it has held up to being dropped 12' rained on, & other construction issues. Love the metric side as well it does come in handy when having to convert measurements. Clip works good, retracts smoothly not too big for my hands. (I have small hands) a child's sz LG. Hand. The rubber grip outside helps with handling. My only complaint would be length. A 25' in this style would be fantastic! I do recommend this product.

I never knew these existed, but... game changer
This is a flat-tape tape measure. Flat. Not curved, but dead flat. If you are a woodworker and need accurate markings for cuts or layouts, cutting a board to length... then you absolutely need one of these. No longer are the days of rolling the tape sideways to mark your work and hoping that when you do, the foot won't come off your workpiece and your tape come roaring back.Things to know: this is a layout/woodworkers tape measure, not a 'how wide is this room' tape measure. Since the tape is flat and not curved it will not extend out and stay straight. You'll need a regular one for that. Secondly, the foot of the tape is fairly robust where it is riveted to the tape which obscures the markings for the first 1/2" or so. If you regularly use your tape measure for 1/2"- 3/4" measurements, this will frustrate you. I personally use other measuring tools for that kind of work so it's not a deal for me. Maybe a quarter point deduction. Otherwise... I wish I'd found this sooner. Just get one.

Important info before you buy or read other reviews
This tape is designed specifically for carpentry and woodworking. Some people have mentioned concerns about the fixed hook and rigidity, but that's actually intentional and not a mistake. The tape is meant for measurements from the inside of the hook, which is usually more important in woodworking. It's flat and less rigid than a regular tape measure, which means trying to measure from the outside of the hook while pressing it against a surface would cause accuracy problems. But the flatness of the blade is super useful for getting precise measurements, especially on curves.I've found this tape to be way easier to read and mark than traditional tape measures, and it comes with handy bonus features like a built-in pencil sharpener and a brake button on the bottom to hold the tape in place. Overall, if used for it's intended purpose, I think the tape measure is really nice.

Has everything
This tape has everything that you need on a tape. It has all the markings on the tape for woodworking that you need. It’s also flat and fully flexible giving you a better accuracy than the traditional tape measure. Only gripe is that in the USA it’s almost half the price. So if you are heading that way get yourself a couple to last a lifetime. They have both imperial and metric markings which is always great for us old timers as it’s handy to remember
