If we read and understand the first 200 pages, we don't *need* MG to tell us what the healing properties of any crystal are. This book and his methodology EMPOWERS us to not need a go-between or a guru to work with crystals and I will be forever grateful to Michael Gienger, may he rest in peace, for bringing this knowledge to us. I called this book a TEXTBOOK and here's why: For those of us not content with accepting other people's subjective experiences alone to learn about the potential healing properties of minerals, this book provides a way for each of us to realize any mineral's properties on our own, without a crystal prescriptive book or crystal guru.Regardless of its publication date (not updated since 1996?) CPCH remains the BEST and only book I know of from which to learn and teach Michael Gienger’s approach - working with the physical aspects of a crystal to determine its healing properties. If crystals can speak to one person, can't they speak to all of us who are sensitive to them? Then why do we need crystal prescriptive books? Can't believe I missed it till now. Mr. Gienger takes you literally from the foundations to the what-they-do, and with fantastic photos to boot. Not a book to glance through and then put on a shelf till you need to look something up. Please do yourselves a favor and study this one if you're really serious about learning how minerals can do what they do. If there were more than 5 stars, I'd click on them. Okay, I confess - he confirms one of the things I've felt for years, that it matters very much how a mineral is formed, where it was formed, along with what's in it - but that didn't prejudice my reactions to the book.
